General file management Image Viewer: All the standard features you would come to expect out of an image viewer plus these additional viewer features. 1. BATCH Image Format Conversion 2 .Password protect files from prying eyes!! 3. Full DRAG & DROP 4. Database for commenting your files so you can later search by keywords. 5. Find duplicate images by APPEARANCE!! Quality of image or brightness or size or aspect makes no difference, it will still find them :) 6. Categorize you pics/files into Albums for quick retrieval later on. The Albums DO NOT make copies of your files, so NO wasted disk space!! 7. Color reduction from 24bit (True-Color) down to 256 color 8bit with amazing quality. I've seen NO better! 8. SUPER FAST thumbnails that require NO additional disk space to store them. 9. Many preview windows at once so you can compare images side by side to decide which to delete. Good for housekeeping. 10. Edit your images with your favorite image editor. 11.Scanner/Camera support 12.Create Wallpaper instantly 13.Screen Snap Shots with one click! 14.Color palette editor. FTP Program: Fast & EZ FTP Client program that allows your to transfer files to and from FTP sites. 1. Allows many uploads and downloads at same time. 2. You can THROTTLE speed of each transfer too. 3. Supports RESUME mode downloading. 4. Explorer like interface for EZ use. 5. Transfers show graphical display of transfer so you can quickly tell which transfers are bottlenecked. 6. Supports INDEX.TXT type of description files many servers use, so a description appears next to each filename! 7. Supports drag/drop: Can drag files into the FTP window for uploading. 8. Support for both types of UNIX servers,DOS/NT/2000, AS-400, Multi-NET FTP sites. 9. Supports PROXY. 10.You can rename, delete, add folders and files. 11. You can CACHE the folders that you are looking at so that as you bounce around the folder tree, the retrieval of the files list become much faster. There are some nice cache options. Auto-Web-Page Generation: Ever have a bunch of pics that you would like to stuff onto a web page(s)? Then this feature is made just for you! In a matter of 2 or 3 clicks it makes all the thumbnails and HTML pages for you. 1. Scan pics, 2. Enter web page properties, 3. click MAKE PAGES, 4. Uploads via FTP, 5. DONE! 1. Web Page Wizard let's you build web pages from a folder of pics with one click. 2. It can auto-upload web site to web server via built in FTP. 3. If lots of pics, it creates multiple web pages (HTML) to complete the site. 4. You can CUSTOMIZE how & where you want the pics on the page using TEMPLATE mode. 5. Also has SIMPLE mode; allows you to fill in simple fields to describe layout of page, it does the rest. 6. Can control thumbnail size, it builds the thumbnails for you. 7. Great for posting vacation pics or whatever:) 8. It even scans pics from scanner/camera. 9. Auto-converts BMP or other formats that aren't GIF/JPG into GIF or JPG so web browser can see the pics. 10.After making textual changes you can select to only upload HTML files instead of everything including pics. A real time saver! General File Management: There are many features that can be applied to any kind of file. 1. File protection with password 2. Sequential file renaming File_001.jpg file_002.jpg etc.. 3. Move/Copy/Delete files easily 4. Sort by date/size/folder etc.. 5. Group files by type into Albums & Sub-Albums 6. Database functions to allow you to annotate files. Many fields in the database to search on ==================================================== ====== ======= ====== CHAPTER 2: How to install the program ======= ====== ======= ==================================================== The ZIP file you download contains all the needed files to use A1-TurboView. Just UN-ZIP the file into a folder that you create. You can call it whatever you like. For example: C:\Program Files\TurboView or F:\FunStuff\TV or D:\Junk Once you have unzipped the file into the folder of your choice, just RUN the TURBOVIEW.EXE program by double clicking on it from Windows Explorer or someother file manager or even the DOS prompt. Once it runs, it will do all the things needed to install it. There are no extra DLLs or stuff that need to be wiped out when you want to un-install it. Just delete the folder if you want to un-install it. ======================================================== ====== ====== ====== CHAPTER 3: How to get help for the program ====== ====== ====== ======================================================== After you run the program, you can click on the HELP menu item and then click on HELP LOCAL submenu item. This displays the help file from your local drives. If you want the latest help, then you can click on the HELP INTERNET subitem and that brings up the help info from our site which will always contain the latest info. ================================================== ====== ====== ====== CHAPTER 4: The status of the program ====== ====== ====== ================================================== This program is SHAREWARE and if you want to get the full functionality of the program, you need to register it. This is now fixed! NT & Win-2000: When running a 2nd copy of Turboview AND you had TurboView setup to only have one copy loaded at a time, then the 2nd copy that was loading would become locked up. This is now fixed! TURBO RECYCLE BIN: Minor annoyance. If you had >2GIG free on the drive that has the TEMP folder, then the TurboView RecycleBin would tell you that you didn't have enough temp space :) This is now fixed, it can now handle many thousands of GIGs of free disk space. MPG & MOV problems: If you had setup TurboView to be the default player for MPG or MOV and a couple of others, It was possible that when you double clicked on a MPG and told TurboView to play the movie, that TurboView would then load ANOTHER copy of TurboView because it's trying to load the default player, which is now turboview :( THIS IS NOW FIXED. When TurboView takes over control (becomes the default), then TurboView saves WHAT WAS the last default player. Then when you click "PLAY" in TurboView, it goes and loads the older program. That way you don't get stuck in a loop. :) CATALOG FUNCTION: When using the catalog feature and you have selected printer output then, it was possible that on certain printers it would look funny on the preview and the printed output may have appeared skinny or wide. NOTE: This didn't occur on Laser printers or printers with equal X&Y resolutions, but for printers with differing DPI in vertical/horizontal directions it would look funny. This is now fixed. FILENAMES WITH COMMAS: TurboView didn't support filenames with commas "," in them. So if you had a file called "C:\README,NOW.TXT" and you tried to use any of these functions: 1. FTP (upload/download) 2. Delete to TurboView RecycleBin 3. Add move or remove from Albums Then it wouldn't work. Sometimes TurboView would just Exit abruptly. This is now fixed, any valid filename for any TurboView function now works properly. NOTE: You can safely start running the newer TurboView without worrying about fixingup the Album files or recyclebin files, the new version now fixes them for you. HOWEVER, ONCE you start using the NEWER TurboView, don't go back and then use the older version, because once again the Albums and Recyclebin will get looking goofy and you will be dissappointed :) WEB FOLDER BUG: If you tried to select a folder that was located on a CD-ROM drive or READ-ONLY drive or WRITE-PROTECTED drive, then it would not be able to create the sub-folders needed to hold the web site thumbnails and htmls. So when you pressed "Make Pages", it would just give you a bunch of errors. This is now fixed. When you select the folder for the Web Pages, it now checks the drive first and if you can't write to it, then it asks you to pick another folder before continuing on. DATABASE BUG: When RUNNING the program for the first time, if you tried to use the database, it wouldn't work. But every time there after it would. So, 99.999% of the people would never notice this. This is now fixed, it works on the very first time too!!! :) PRINTING BUG: If you selected a printer whose X-resolution is different than it's Y-Resolution, then the print-preview window would look goofy and so would the printed output. Usually it's the OLDER printers that are like this. This is now fixed so instead of SKINNY or FAT looking output, it's proportional! FILES LIST WINDOW: Bug fix. Most people would probably never notice it, but in the files list window (FLW), you can have many columns of info showing. You can also DRAG & move columns around. After dragging columns around, it was possible that the column captions would become incorrect. This is now fixed! OPEN FILE DIALOG: When you click "Load" to picks files to load, you can type "+" without the quotes and then click open and then all files will be loaded into turboview for the selected folder. This is normal and good, the PROBLEM is that if you try it on a drive that is a network drive or CD-ROM drive, then you get an error message when you use the + character. This is now fixed, you can now use the + for any drive/folder. THUMBNAILVIEW: While viewing the files in thumbnail in the Files List Window it was possible that the checkmarks next to each file could be very big. This would occur where long filenames would end up wrapping onto 2 or more lines. It would then take that text box height and used it for the height of the checkboxs. This is now fixed, instead we just take the height of the font that is used to display the filename. FIXED PROBLEM WITH 32BIT BMP FILES. They would load and display just fine, BUT anywhere in the program that displayed the image shrunken or enlarged, it would look like garbage. It's now fixed. 32BIT BMP files are NOT common place, the 24bit ones are the common ones. PROPERTIES WINDOW: When you click on the properties menu item, it shows certain info. In particular, it shows the files BitsPerPixel and the internal BitsPerPixel currently used to display the image. Well, those two BPP values COULD be wrong if you had more than one LargePreviewWindow opened at the same time. This is now fixed. It correctly displays the right BPP. MINOR CHANGES: PRINT BUTTON: The print button on the main window toolbar now shows you the print menu intead of just printing the current picture. This is more flexible! LARGE PREVIEW WINDOWS: Instead of using > and < to go browse thru the files in the files list, we now use PgUp and PgDn. It's more consistent with the keys used to browse in the Main TurboView window :) MINOR IMPROVEMENTS FILES LIST WINDOW: When in Thumbnail view, the pictures are surrounded by a frame that looks like a piece of FILM. It just makes it look cooler :) You can of course turn this option off, by going into the Files List Window's VIEW menu and select "Draw Film Frame in thumbnail mode". Just check it on or off depending on what you like to see. FILES LIST WINDOW: When you sorted on a column, you had no idea which column you sorted on by looking at the files list. NOW, it's designed so the column caption in which you sorted on is displayed in BLUE and has a green arrow next to it. The arrow is pointing up/down depending on if you sorted ascending or descending. When you click another column to sort, the current sort column's arrow turns GRAY and then the new column has the green arrow. This is so that you have an indication as to what the previous column you sorted on was. This is because you are able to sort on multiple columns. For example: If you sort by "SIZE" and then sort by "TYPE", then the list will be sorted sorted by TYPE BUT within a TYPE it's still sorted by SIZE :) TURBOVIEW RECYCLE BIN: Although you could turn the TurboView RecycleBin ON and OFF thru the main menu OPTIONS menu, I also added a button INSIDE the Recycle Bin window to make it quicker & easier to turn it on and off. It also warns you when you are about to turn it off too. TURBOVIEW MAIN WINDOW: Added ability to SAVE & RESTORE your Toolbuttons positions'. So if you move them around, then next time you load TurboView, they will be right where you left them the last time. ALSO, if you really don't like where you have put them and you want them back to DEFAULT locations, just right click on any tool button and then select to restore default positions! FILES LIST WINDOW: There is a smoothing option added to the files list window that is much like the smoothing button used on the Main TurboView window. This option controls how the thumbnails and small preview window appear. You can pick from NO SMOOTHING or MILD SMOOTHING or FULL SMOOTHING. For photos, FULL is the best for line art, NO or MILD is the best. NO smoothing is only good for some line art. In general you would always use FULL, but it makes the thumbnails go just a tiny bit slower and so for older slow computers, you may want to use NO SMOOTHING to keep the speed up. FILES LIST WINDOW: You can now select from 3 methods of smoothing to reduce images to ThumbNails. If you use NONE then the creation of the thumbnails can go alot faster, but not look quite as good. So there is a SPEED trade-off. Personally, if you have at least a 250MHZ, I would just keep it set to the highest quality. WALLPAPER function: The Wall-Paper function of TurboView is much better now, aside from the normal Tile,Center,Stretch modes, you are now able to pre-stretch the image using TurboView's powerful stretching method so that images that are enlarged or shrunk look MUCH better than if Windows did it by itself. Another additional feature is that you are now able to specify when the image is being enlarged if you want it to be extra smoothed for you :) This is good for normal photos, and GREAT for real SMALL photos, and not so good for line-art. LARGE PREVIEW WINDOW: Better operation when you double-click. When you double click a large preview window to switch to ACTUAL size mode, then the SPOT in which you clicked on is centered in the preview area. This way you don't have to scroll around to get to see what you want :) LARGE PREVIEW WINDOW: When the preview is in ACTUAL size mode, and the window size is smaller than the image then there are scroll bars. COOL NEW feature is, INSTEAD of using the scroll bars to position the image in the window, you can now DRAG the image around so that you can position it faster! You will see the HAND icon so that you know you can drag it around :) LARGE PREVIEW WINDOW: Better navigation with mixed files. Let's say you have a bunch of photos and a few movies or sound files in the files list. When you are in a LargePreview Window and choose to go to the NEXT or PREVIOUS file, if the next/prev file is NOT an image, then the LargePreview window would disappear :( THIS IS NOW FIXED. It's now smart enough to SKIP over non image files while browsing forwards and backwards thru the files list in the Large Preview Windows. :) LARGE PREVIEW WINDOWS: Added "Smoothing" option to LARGE PREVIEW windows. 1. NO Smoothing (FAST Great for Line-Art, not very good on photos) 2. Mild Smooth (Pretty quick, pretty good for photos & line-art) 3. FULL Smooth (Slower, great for photos, not great for line-art) This option is like the Smooth button on the main screen, except that these smooth settings only effect the large preview windows. HINT: When you navigate thru the LargePreview windows with pgup, pgdn etc..., the CURRENT smoothing option set for the current Large Preview Window will be kept for the NEXT image that gets loaded. IF HOWEVER, you double click on an item in the files list or whereever, and load a fresh new LargePreview window, the default smoothing method will be that of the Main TurboView window. WEB-FOLDER WINDOW: Added a SMOOTHING menu option, so that you can control how the thumbnails are made. You can pick from NO smoothing or MINOR smoothing or FULL smoothing. CATALOG WINDOW: Added 2 buttons to the catalog window. Added "Printer Options" so that you can have quick access to settings like margins and print smoothing etc... while still in the catalog window. ALSO added a SMOOTHING button with 3 different modes. 1. No smoothing (good for line-art) 2. Minor smoothing (good for line-art/photos) 3. Full smoothing (GREAT for photos, not so good for line-art) PRINT OPTIONS: Added 2 new options in the print options window. You can now select "Smooth Printing". This is best for photographs and NOT so good for line art and bar graphs. You can also select the amount of smoothing from 0 to 100. Where 100 provides the MOST smoothing and 0 provides NO smoothing. About 80 produces the best results for photos. ZOOM: MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER shrinking and enlarging for photos. Very smooth and lines don't look jagged (staircase effect). INFINITE ZOOM: You can now zoom(enlage) to a very large picture and you will not see big blocky pixelated squares, instead you will see a SMOOTH image and wonder "How did he do that?" :) Smallest ZOOM possible WAS 2x2 and now you can finally go down to 1x1. FTP: Made RE-Fresh button clear the cache for the current folder so that the CURRENT folder listing can be retrieved from the server instead of showing the same list again. FTP: If you double click on a profile name in the FTP Settings tab, then you are connected to that site. MAIN TURBOVIEW WINDOW: There is now a SMOOTH Effect in the EFFECTS menu. This is different than the Smoothing options that are used to control how a large image is displayed shrunken down. This SMOOTH EFFECT actually modifies the image so that if you save it back out it will be smoother. SO be careful :) You can select from up to 6 different smoothing levels. From almost none to full smooth. Better Large font operation. DATABASE EDITOR: When using the Notes DataBase Editor in TurboView there are 4 VCR buttons that allow you to navigate thru the records. It's NOW BEEN enhanced so that as long as you are holding down on these buttons they repeat the action of "NEXT/PREV" so that you don't have to keep clicking :) NEW FEATURES NEW FEATURE: Of course TurboView can do SlideShow from within the program, BUT NOW you can start the slide show from the command line. So, for example: You can do this: C>TURBOVIEW /S D:\MyPics\NiceShots This would load all the pics from D:\MyPics\NiceShots into TurboView and then immediately start the slide show, and when you quit the slide show, TurboView will exit. NEW FEATURE (FILES LIST REPORTS): This is a new feature. Just click on the file menu and get to the PRINT menu. You will see "Files List Reports". Click on that menu item. You are now brought to the Detailed Reports window. From here it takes ALL of the files in the files list window and produces 1 of 3 types of reports: 1. Detailed Report Only Prints all filenames & sizes & dates & resolution and other important info about each file. Each file gets its own line. 2. Thumbnails only: Prints all files as thumbnails and on top of each file it prints it's filename. 3. Detailed WITH Thumbnails: This prints a few detail lines then a few thumbnails then a few more details then a few more thumbnails. This is a NICE report! Next, if you select a report that has THUMBNAILS, you can pick the size of the thumbnails, ranging from Very Small to Very Large. You can also pick the shape of the thumbnails (SQUARE, LANDSCAPE, PORTRAIT) Once you have selected the options, it builds a preview area on the right side of the window. It shows you how many pages of output COULD be printed. You can scroll thru the pages in the preview to see exactly what each page would look like. Next, you can select what pages you want printed and then print them. You can of course select between ALL files or just TAGGED files. This is a very nice feature!!!! FILES LIST WINDOW: Added to the right-click menu in the list of files. You can now select to load the MS-DOS Command Prompt. You can also do this using FILE menu in the files list window. It opens up a command prompt in the folder where the currently selected file in the files list is located. EFFECTS: Added a new menu function to the effects menu, you can now SMOOTH images. By repeatedly clicking on smooth, you will effectively blur the image. Also added icons to the Effects menu so that it looks more professional. FILES LIST WINDOW: Added to the right-click menu in the list of files. You can now select to load the "FIND" program from windows. Also the FIND option can be run using FILE menu in the files list window. ALSO The right-click option to load an Explorer's Window is also available in the FILE menu. SEARCHING: For duplicate images by appearance. MUCH IMPROVED matching for images that are significantly brighter or darker. It NOW finds images as DUPS that are more than just slightly lighter/darker. SUPER COOL NEW FEATURE: You can now now check for DUPS that are Rotated or mirrored or flipped from each other. NEW: You can now search for ONLY the B&W or off tint matches and you can also, ONLY search for the rotated matches as well. DELETE TAGGED FILES: Added Delete ALL Tagged files from the Main TurboView window. This is handy because sometimes you just want to sift thru tagging images from the main window and then delete all the tagged files without having to go to the Files List Window viewing mode. 1. EDIT menu has "Delete ALL Tagged files" 2. New button to click has a green checkmark on a trash can! SETUP PROGRAM: Added slick Setup Program so that you can install it like you do normal applications. You can now un-install easily too via the control panel. The Setup program sticks shortcuts into your favorite spots like Desktop and Start Menu etc... 10/25/00 Version 2.20beta BUG FIXES: FILES LIST WINDOW: When scrolling down in Thumbnail mode, after scrolling thru many files your system resources would get low in Win95/98. This is now fixed. No more resource leak. FILES LIST WINDOW: While in Thumbnail view mode, if you quickly change the size of the FilesList Window sometimes you can end up where the CHeckbox for the LEFT MOST thumbs is not COMPLETELY visible. And once you get in this state subsequent resizing of the window causes all the thumbs to flash as though they are being redrawn. This was annoying and is NOW FIXED!!!! :) PUZZLE-FUN & Windows-NT: Fixed little bug where if you chose to use the "SWAP" Button, then the caption flashing on the bottom would be invisible that says to use your arrow keys for the swap. This only occured on NT machines. This is now fixed. LARGE PREVIEW: When you used the menu option "View Toggle" to change between actual size (scrollable) and Stretchable, it only worked on the LAST large preview window you had opened. AND if you had many open and then closed out the last one, then the menu option would give you an error (blow up). Although using the "V" key would work just fine. THis is now fixed, you can use the "V" key or click on the "View Toggle" menu option just fine. NagScreen: If you tried to use the Turboview.USR (keyfile) on a machine that you are not registered for then it would pop up a warning message stating that you are not using a valid KEY file. This would pop-up every minute. So if you went to sleep, the next morning you would have a LOT :) of messages to clear. Now it's fixed to just pop-up ONE message at a time! COPY/MOVE: When using the FilesListWindow, you have the ability to Copy/Move files around. And can select a folder from the pulldown of recently used folders for copying or moving. Well, if you RENAME or DELETE one of those folders with another program, then of course TurboView will not know about it, so when you pick one of those (now gone) folders you would get an error. This is now fixed, it will now default to showing the C:\ folder. Playing AVI/MPG Etc... If you double clicked on a multimedia (video/sound) file, then TurboView comes up and you don't see the controls for FORWARD, BACKWARD, PAUSE etc... :( But once you stop it then start it again, they of course appear again! This is now fixed. SEARCH LIST WINDOW BUG: If you edited the "Exclude/Include List" AND the files in the files list were all from the SAME folder, then it was possible that if you changed the folder from being included to excluded or vice versa, then it wouldn't realize it until you re-loaded the program. This was because the folder's inclusion status was cached wrongly. This is now fixed! ANNOYANCE FIXES: LARGE FONT MODE: Although the program works fine in large font mode, if you pick an ODD(wierd/huge) sized "Custom font size", then the program wouldn't always adjust the size of some of the boxes to make sure you could see all the text. This is now fixed! LARGE FONT MODE: The check(tags) box size didn't grow as your Windows font size grew. Now it does so you get bigger checkbox's SLIDE SHOW: Tiny bug fix. When you do a slide show, the title bar of the program wouldn't change to reflect the currently displayed picture. This is now fixed! FilesListWindow: When you have a list of files and you move the cursor to point to another file, then the small preview window at the bottom is updated to show you the current pic. This is normal and good. However, after you delete OR remove some, then the preview window doesn't get updated :( This has now been fixed! FILES LIST WINDOW: When you edit a pic from within TurboView using the EDIT menu option, then if you had changed the pic, when you came back to TurboView and then went to Thumbnail view, it didn't update the thumbnail to reflect the updated picture. NOW IT DOES :) SLOW RENAMING/MOVING: If you had thousands of files in your files list, and then you selected to rename or move these files, it would go MUCH slower than if you had just a few hundred. This is now fixed, so even at 20,000-30,000 files in the list, it still goes REAL FAST!!! TAGGED MOVE/COPY/RENAME: If you had errors while moving, copying or renaming a bunch of tagged files for a stupid reason like maybe picking a drive that doesn't have enough disk space by accident or maybe picking a CD-ROM that can't be saved to etc..., then you would get an error message and then you clicked "OK" to continue, when, if you had tagged a lot of files, then you are in for a lot of messages you have to click thru :( Well, this is now fixed. So, once you get an error messages, then you have the ability to cancel out of the rest of the COPY/MOVE/RENAME operation. WHEW :) PreviewPanel: When making thumbs while in the Files List Window and it's going thru the a bunch of files, if some of them are WMF/EMF files, it flashes the PreviewPanel with pink! THis is now fixed, no more flashing while building the thumbnails. SORTING FILES LIST: When dragging in a big folder and maybe subfolders of files, and then you go to sort by SIZE/MODIFIED/TYPE it would say to Please Wait until all the files have been scanned for their info. This was NOT necessary since most of the files already had that information by the time they showed up in the Files List. SO, NOW IT SORTS RIGHT AWAY :) GIF animations: When paging down thru files, animated GIF files don't show the filename of the current file while playing in the TurboView window. This is now fixed. It USED to show the previous filename. Palette Editor: When using the palette editor and NOT SELECTING a transparent color, then the buttons used to pick transparency are now invisible SEARCH FILES LIST: When you use the Search Files List By... window, there was a problem with the option button "Search HI-LITED ONLY". It would not see any of your HI-LITED files as being HI-LITED and thus it would produce any matches in the Results Window. This is now fixed. ALSO: If you tried to use the "Compare Tagged Only" option when searching for DUPS by Image Appearance, the search could take a long time for LARGE files lists (>20,000) even though you only had a few files tagged to see if they are dups in the large list. Well this is now sped way up. Much quicker!!! LARGE PREVIEW WINDOWS: Whenever you renamed or moved a file in the files list window, then the LargePreview windows associcated with THAT filename were NOT updated to show the new filename :( This has now been fixed :) MULTIMEDIA FILES: There are many places where you can play movie or sound files. If the file is of a type that TurboView can't play, then an EXTERNAL player is loaded so that the file can play. Well, as you scroll down thru a list of files then for each one you scroll to a NEW movie player is opened up. This was very annoying. So, NOW if an External Player is needed, then you are now presented with a BUTTON called "Play File" that you can click to start playing the movie/sound file. That way you don't end up with a ton of movie players open while trying to quickly scroll down thru a files list of MPG files or MP3 or WMA etc... SMALL ENHANCEMENTS: FILES LIST WINDOW or MAIN WINDOW: If you drag files or folders into the window, then they were ADDED to the current files list. There is now a NEW OPTION. You can select if you want the Files List emptied BEFORE adding the new files to the files list. If you hold down the SHIFT key while dragging, the files list is emptied first. If you hold down the CTRL key, then the files are ADDED to the list. MAIN WINDOW: If you have many files loaded in your files list, you can click on the prev/next/home/end buttons to browse thru your pics. You can also use the PgUp/PgDown keys as well. I have now ADDED the ability to use the HOME/END keys as well to jump to the start or end of the files list too. LARGE PREVIEW: Added HOME/END menu options for the Large Preview pop-up menu options (right-mouse click) And of course you can use the HOME/END keys while in the Large Preview window too. BETTER DELETION: When deleting files from ALBUMS or FILES LIST WINDOW, it now shows you how many files and how much space will be deleted. ALSO, if you have tagged all files by mistake it gives you a warning that ALL files are tagged and allows you quit out of the deletion process. BETTER EXITING: You are now protected againts leaving the Files List Window if you have more than one file HI-LITED. This is so that if you truely wanted to do something with the HI-LITED files like tag them or whatever, you can select to not exit the Files List Window. ALSO, if you have TAGGED files, you are now warned against exiting the program so that if you wanted to do something with those tagged files and forgot, you are now reminded. And you can select to not exit the program. BROWSE FUNCTION: There are many places where you can browse for files. For example when you MOVE/COPY tagged files, you can browse to a folder of your choice. There are some improvements in the BROWSE window. You can now press ALT-R to rename a folder, you can also press the DELETE key to delete a folder and you can also press ALT-N to create a new folder. Of course you can STILL use the buttons to do the same functions. ALSO: In order to make it more "consistant" with the rest of the program, if you press "RETURN" while scrolling up and down the file list on the right hand side of the browse window, it WILL NOW open up a Large Preview window. Before you had to double-click on it. FILES LIST WINDOW: Added FILE menu item "Recycle Bin" for those of you who like to use your keyboard. Of course you can still click on the TRASH CAN ICON in the Files List Window!!! DATABASE FUNCTIONS: The Compact/Fix/Re-Link function for the DataBase is more powerful and now includes an option to check the integrity of the Database. You can get to this option by using the FILE menu option then the NOTES Database functions sub menu. DATABASE FUNCTIONS: Better efficiency now. When you rename a file or move a file from within TurboView, it's associated database entry is also updated. It used to flag the original record as deleted and then it would add a NEW record. So if you moved or renamed a bunch of files, the database would grow bigger when it didn't really have to. ALBUM SYNCHRONIZATION: Better Album sync. When you rename a file(s) or folder within TurboView, it AUTOMATICALLY scans all Albums and updates all Album shortcut entries that match. Also, if you MOVE a file to a different folder the Albums are updated. ALBUM LOADING: When loading a LARGE album that has many thousands of files in it, it can take a few seconds to load. If you wish to cancel out of loading a LARGE Album, then you can now press ESCAPE! TAGGED DELETE (Minor Annoyance): In the Files List Window, you can tag a bunch of files for deletion. Then you can click on the delete button and then they get deleted. If the TurboView Recycle-Bin is enabled, then they are first copied into the Recycle Bin, THEN deleted. There was a bug. If the file was NOT ABLE to delete, it was not removed from the recycle-bin. Of course this is not a problem it was just esthetics. TAGGED OPERATIONS: You can tag a bunch of files and then do various tagged operations on them. Like, rename, copy, move, etc... The only annoyance comes in when the operation doesn't work on all the files. Like maybe copying files to a destination drive that is LOW on disk space. At this point, you NOW have the option to make sure that the only files tagged are the ones that DID NOT complete the tagged operation. This is very useful! NEW FEATURES: RENAMING SEQUENTIALLY: There were several ways to rename tagged files which were very useful. There is now ANOTHER way to rename files. It's called SEQUENTIAL renaming. You give the base name of all files and then give a sequence starting number and then click rename. For example: If you had a base name of "Cindy_" and a starting sequence number of 100, and if you had 11 tagged files, then they would end up being Cindy_100, Cindy_101, Cindy_102 etc... up to Cindy_111. You can also elect to put the #s at the end or front of the filename :) RENAMING: You can now rename files by specifying text to insert into the tagged filenames as usual. BUT the new thing is that you can ALSO specify what STARTING POSITION to insert the text into the filename!!! RENAMING: You can now rename files by specifying how many letters to delete as usual. BUT NOW, you can specify a STARTING position where to delete the letters from in the filename!!! RENAMING: You can now rename files by SPLITTING the filename into 2 pieces and then SWAPPING the first and last pieces. For example: If you have a bunch of filenames like: PARIS001.JPG thru PARIS999.JPG you could swap it to make them 001PARIS.JPG thru 999PARIS.JPG. LARGE PREVIEWS: You can now select from the Preview menu to open ALL TAGGED files into Large Preview Windows!!! Very handy for comparing multiple files at the same time!!! CTRL-F8 ALSO does the same thing so you can open up all the tagged files without using the mouse! LARGE PREVIEW WINDOW: PROPERTIES: There is now a new handy pop-up menu option called "Properties" This allows you to get the properties of the currently displayed file in the Large Preview Window. And like always, you can edit the color palette from the properties window AND view any GIF comments that may be present! EDIT: There is now a new handy pop-up menu option called "EDIT" This allows you to EDIT the picture in the Large Preview window. PRINT: There is now a new handy pop-up menu option called "PRINT" This allows you to PRINT the picture in the Large Preview window. BETTER NAVIGATION: While in the Files List Window or the Main viewing window or in FULL screen mode or while viewing a Large Preview Window, you can now navigate to the NEXT tagged file or NEXT UNtagged file by pressing CTRL-T or CTRL-U. There are also 2 additional menu items in the Large Preview pop-up menu to allow you to do the same thing as well. And there are 2 additional menu items in the main menu's VIEW menu to do the same thing as well. NEW FILE TYPES SUPPORTED: Added MP3, MP2, WMA to the list of supported file types. These files will launch your own Music player to play the files. FILES LIST WINDOW: Added 2 menu items in the VIEW menu. 1. Set Custom Thumbnail Size 2. Use Custom Thumbnail Size This allows you to create your own thumbnail size that you prefer to use when viewing the files in thumbnail mode. Handy if you don't like any of the presets that are standard. FILES LIST WINDOW: Before you were only allowed to click on a filename to rename it WHILE you were in DETAIL view mode. If you were in THUMBNAIL view then you couldn't rename the file using that method. NOW IT'S FIXED so that you can click on a filename in either DETAIL view or THUMBNAIL view so that you may edit(rename) the file. MAIN MENU: Added 3 more items to the OPTIONS menu. 1. Display Hints & ToolTips for novice users You can now turn off annoying HINTS in windows that display lists of things. This hint can sometimes HIDE other items in the list for a few seconds. 2. TurboView's Recycle Bin [Enabled] You can now disable the TurboView's Recycle Bin which allows you to UN-delete files. Don't turn this feature off unless you don't care about really deleting files :) 3. Display Information Notice Windows once again. The most common informational notice window that can appear are for when Dropping files onto TurboView or for loading and displaying GIF MOVIE files. These can get annoying for experienced users. SO, there are options to turn those windows of permanently. BUT if you desire to have them appear again, use this option! FILES LIST WINDOW: Added ability to open up an Explorer Window for the path of a file in the files list window. Just RIGHT CLICK on a file and then pick "Open Explorer with current path". FTP WINDOW: If you connected to a UNIX FTP site that supports LINKED files, they are basically "short-cuts" to the real files. And since the short-cut files don't reflect the true size and date of the REAL file that they point to, there is a LINK-RESOLVING routine that we go thru. It reads the link data to find out the true name and path of the file that is short-cut'd. This resolving can take quite some time ESPECIALLY on slow connections with LOTS of linked files. SO IN THIS CASE we provide a LINK RESOLVE ABORT option. When you choose to abort the resolve process, then the file SIZE and DATE/TIME will not be correct. And FOLDERS that didn't get resolved will NOT show up as folders to click on. But it may not be of concern to you, so we provide this new option to help speed up things for you under extreme circumstances!!!!!! In case you WISH to "resolve" a specific item, just click ONCE on it and if it was not previously resolved then it will resolve it at once. And if it determines that it is a FOLDER, then the folder will be added to the Tree view. This way if you have a HUGE folder with tons of links to resolve, you can just abort out, and resolve the items you want quickly! FTP WINDOW: There is now additional features built into the FTP Window. There is now support for CACHING. Caching will allow QUICKER access to folders from FTP servers. This caching speeds up modem connections or slow ftp sites by a LOT! It speeds up the folder listings from the FTP site by keeping the most recently accessed folders in temp files, then when you click back on a folder that was recently retrieved, instead of retrieving it from the SLOW modem, it reads it from your fast temp files. The only problem with caching is that it's POSSIBLE that when the FTP server changes the contents of it's folders, that you WONT see those changes. (Because the cache get's the data from a local temp file on your hard drive). Clearing the cache: There are 3 ways to clear the cache files. 1. Clear ALL cache files. Act as though nothing has been cached. 2. Clear the cache file for the active FTP site. So that any folder retrieved for the active FTP site WILL be retrieved from the FTP Site and not the cache. 3. Clear the cache for the current folder. This means that only the current folder is cleared so the next time you retrieve it, it will be retrieved from the FTP site instead of the cache. Cache Options: In order to obtain the best results, there are several options that you can set. 1. Cache Enabled (Default ON) If you turn it off, then no caching is done. If you have a FASt connection like CABLE or DSL caching is less important. 2. CACHE DURING SESSION ONLY: If you visit FTP sites that change frequently, we suggest using this option. That way everytime you log into an FTP site, the cache files for the site are cleared out first so that you get the most current copy of the folder listings. 3. REMOVE CACHE FILES OLDER THAN: If you don't care too much about having the latest folder listings but want to remain FAIRLY current, you can select a LOW number of days to cache. A value of 2 or 3 would mean that every few days the contents of the cache are cleared and then refreshed so you are never more than a couple of days out of date. NOTE: A value of ZERO means that everytime you load the program the cache files are cleaned out. 4. MAXIMUM # OF FOLDERS TO CACHE: You can also indicate how many folders you wish to cache. 200-500 is a suggested number. Once you reach the max, then the oldest folders are removed from the cache area. Anything less than 5 would be silly and once you get past 500 the cache maintenence overhead will start to grow. So 999 would NOT be suggested. 5. MINIMUM SIZE TO BE ABLE TO CACHE: Typically use a small number like less than 2K for modem connections and maybe 10K for fast cable speeds. The idea is that there is no need to cache small folders because the retrieval time is so small anyway. Unless the FTP site you are visiting is overloaded with users and is slow even if you have a fast connection. ALBUM FUNCTIONS: You used to be able to click a button to load the Files List Window from the Album Window's selected Album. I thought it would be nice to have an option to allow SUB-ALBUMS as well. So, there is now a check box to allow for Sub-Albums to be loaded into the Files List Window all at the same time. Pretty Handy!!! 07/06/00 Version 2.13 Tiny bug fixes :) FTP Function: Better intuitiveness :) Added the ability to print an order form right from within the program. Just select HELP menu and pick "Print/EMail Order Form". Makes it easier to order! Animated GIFS: Made the large preview window that plays animated GIFs a little better. If multiple GIFs are playing, then it's smoother than before! Large Previews: The large preview windows have some more "right-click" menu options for easier usage. SHAREWARE: Shareware version can display more pics before the nag screens appear. Then as time goes on, the nags become more frequent. This way a new user won't get bombarded with nags but after they've used it awhile it becomes more annoying, then they can decide if they liked it enough to register it. 07/02/00 Version 2.13 Updated Help Files: Added a section for Dummies/Novices to get started quick without having to read thru the whole documentation :) PRINTING: If you had NO printer at all, then there were some functions in TurboView that would become confused and not work. Like the CATALOGING feature and the PRINT PREVIEW. So, now a default printer is checked for and if NONE exists, a warning message is displayed. FTP: SOME FTP SITES use what's called LINKS. In fact some links can point to yet other links and so on. TurboView was just resolving the first link. Thus if you went to an FTP site that had links pointing to links that went more than 1 level deep, then the "file size, date, time" did not show the correct values. It now resolves no matter HOW deep the links go :) ALSO: As an extra added visual help, any file or folder that was LINKED has a "shortcut" type of icon, just like in Explorer with the little arrow! DELETING FILES: When you hi-lite some file(s) in the FTP files list and press the DELete key, it's the same as clicking on the DELETE FILE(S) button. Makes it easier to use. HOWEVER if you are EDITING a filename and using the DELETE key to edit the filename, then no file delete action is taken, but instead the filename letters will be deleted as so it should :) LARGE PREVIEWS: You can now press "V" in the large preview window to toggle between ActualSize & Stretchable Size. Same as DOUBLE clicking You can NOW RIGHT Click in the Large Preview windows to turn off the annoying long hint that pops up whenever the mouse moves over the window. If you want the hint back, just right click again. This pop-up menu also has a list of things you can do like go to NEXT pic in the list, or PREVIOUS pic or close the preview window. Also, you can toggle the TAGged status of the file. And you can also, toggle the viewing mode (ActualSize/StretchableSize) MAIN TURBOVIEW WINDOW: This window is now more consistent, it used to be that it was the only window that you could NOT double click on in order to bring up a Large Preview window. This is now fixed, you can now dbl click anywhere in the Main Window and it will bring up a seperate preview window. 06/02/00 Version 2.13 Updated Web Site: 2.13 Available now! SOUNDS: In some places where a beep is played, it would play the beep twice. This is now fixed. GENERAL: A few more intuitive things, better hints in some places etc... WALLPAPER: Added ability to SHRINK the image before saving the WallPaper image so that if you had selected ShrinkToFit for the WallPaper, TurboView would do the resize instead of Windows doing it. TurboView does a better job of shrinking pictures. This is optional of course! LARGE PREVIEWS: The large preview windows are very nice for comparing pictures against each another. The only gotcha is that if a modal window pops-up, then you can't move these windows around to look at them. All you hear is a "ding" :) Pretty much standard windows operation. BUT I WANTED to be able to still move THOSE windows around. You CAN NOW DO IT. So, NO MATTER WHAT MODAL WINDOW you have on your screen, you can ALWAYS activate and move the LargePreview windows around! A modal window is a window that appears and takes control and your other windows in your app can NOT respond, UNTIL the modal window is closed out. FTP: When done with FTP it now checks to see if you had downloaded programs/files to the temp folder area. If it detects that you have some files in that folder, it gives you the option to view that folder to maybe delete files from there that you don't want. SOME FTP SITES use what's called LINKS. So when a directory is pulled off of a site, the directory info isn't complete. This is because the folders in question actually come from somewhere else. It's sort of like a shortcut to a folder. Anyway, the FTP program now resolves the shortcut links so that it can properly determine if a linked file is a folder or a real file. Animated GIFS: Much better & smoother, especially for animations that have big dimensions. GENERAL: Most of the windows of the program now have what's called SNAP-TO-EDGE capability. That means that as you MOVE the window close to the edge of the screen, it jumps right to the edge like a magnet. Very COOOL feature. You can of course change the SNAP-TO-EDGE properties from the OPTIONS menu. By default it's turned ON. LOAD FILES: When you click on the load button to bring up the Open File Dialog window, you could use the CTRL key to highlight specific files. And the last file you selected appears on the right panel. The problem was that you COULD NOT double click on the preview window to bring up the larger(real sized) version of the image when MULTIPLE files were selected. YOU CAN NOW DO THIS :) 05/12/00 Version 2.12 Minor Improvements: Added some more icons for the MENU pulldowns. Improved resource usage.(especially in 16bit video screen mode) Updated the help files. Palette Editor: There is now a palette editor. Click on the PROPERTIES menu item and it will show you a palette edit button. So if your image contains 256 or less colors and contains a palette you can edit the colors in the palette. You can ALSO, change the color that is used for the background/transparancy color as well. Or you can tell it that you don't want a transparent color at all. Animated GIFS: Animated GIFS worked great under all circumstances except one. When you double-clicked an filename or small preview to bring up a LARGE seperate preview window, if the GIF file to display was a "PASSWORD PROTECTED" GIF file, then it wouldn't show the animation, it would just show one frame of it. This is now fixed! If you have an Animated GIF file in an LARGE PREVIEW window and you pressed the SPACE-BAR to tag the file, it would actually quit the animation and close the preview window :( This is now fixed, the SPACE-BAR is ignored for quitting the animation. That way you can tag animated Gifs right from the large preview window. Pressing RETURN and holding it down SPEEEEEDS up the animation for some fun effects. Pressing ESCAPE key will EXIT the animation. The animated Large Preview windows are now much faster, you can see this only when you have a large number of animations going at the same time >10. Otherwise you wouldn't notice the slow down. So now with lot's it's noticably faster!!!! More nice icons on main file menu Quicker loading on SLOW machines (50MHZ 486) FTP: When you are trying to connect to an FTP site that is busy alot of the time, you can enter a value for number of retries to try to connect multiple times with a specified delay time between each connect. Well, that works, but in between EACH try for connection, if connection can't be made a MessageBox pops up and tells you it could not connect. This was sorta kinda dumb, because the point of allowing multiple retries is so that you can specify a bunch of retry attempts and then walk away from the computer and not have be click on anything between each attempt. This is NOW FIXED so that the error message box appears only on the FIRST attempt! 05/02/00 Version 2.11 FILELISTWINDOW: When you went to select the thumbnail size the FIRST time, it would NOT show you the current thumbnail size. It now shows you the current size :) When you have a large number of thumbnails and scrolled real fast you could see a tiny amount of flicker, now the thumbnail scrolling is MUCH faster, about 50% faster!! So even on slow machines it will run at a pretty good speed! In 256 color mode the files list window was pretty good but in Thumbnail mode the different thumbs would not all look very good. If you clicked on a thumbnail then it would change the palette and then it would look ok. Now they ALL LOOK GOOD in 256 color mode because I use just ONE palette to display all of them. This was a 256 color only issue! AND in 256 color mode it's a lot faster than it was before for scrolling around the thumbnails! FTP: Made it shareware limited, so here are the limits: The number of FTP Site profiles you can have: ShareWare = 2 Registered = 5 Pro = 25 Sysop = 999999 Little Previews: There are several windows in my program which display a small preview panel of the image you have selected. If you had selected a SUPER LARGE image (>2048x2048) then it was possible for the Windows OS to not reduce it properly to fit, it would just show blank, so I have added logic to check if the image is really large, and if so, I DO MY OWN reduction to fit into the small preview panel :) So now you see the image!!!! :) THUMBNAILS: When you view the Files List Window in thumbnail mode, it cleverly builds all the thumbnails to display in the background. The only problem was that when you went to click on menu items or went to resize the window it would appear jerky and not smooth. THIS IS NOW FIXED. So no matter how many thumbs it has to build, it will always be smooth with using the program. Help/About: Instead of just showing the creation Date of the program, it now shows the Time too :) FTP: Much better support for AS-400 machines. Very nice, you can navigate thru the OS's native file structure! Added label for Server type. Can be either DOS/Windows or Unix or MVS-MultiNet or AS-400 DRAG/DROP: Sorry, fixed bug if you were dragging from TurboView SLIDESHOW: If you were in the middle of a slide show and clicked the close "X" in the upper right corner, it would give an error. This is now fixed! SETUP: When you checked file types in the Setup to have TurboView automatically load for, that worked! BUT When you UN-Checked a filetype, then it didn't restore the PREVIOUS association for that filetype :( This is now fixed! Also, on Win95 systems it would do some wierd things like act fine by running when you double click a file, BUT the file's icon would NOT be TurboView's :( This is also fixed. No more association oddities :) Yippie! If you tried to close TurboView while you were still transferring files, it would go ahead and do it. This is wrong, so I fixed it :) FTP: Minor clean ups FTP: When downloading it shows the "TimeLeft" and it's pretty accurate but when the transfer speeds are fluctuating, it can make it appear bouncy, so I took some of the bounce out of it :) 04/24/00 Version 2.10 Released Version 2.10 Updated Help Files FTP: Added graphical speed display to the download/upload windows so that you can tell visually from a distance if it appears that you transfer rate has changed considerably! Pretty cool. It has two views, just click on it to change it's view mode. 04/23/00 Version 2.07 FTP: When you are transfering a file the Upload/Download window that comes up has some buttons on it, in particular then "Open File" button. This button didn't do anything :( IT now does, it plays/runs/views/loads the file that you are transferring. That way once the download is done, you can go right to the file Also, if you are uploading, you can go to the file WHILE it's uploading in case you are nervous that the file you are sending is the wrong one :) FTP: Added DRAG/DROP capability. You can now DROP files onto the FTP window and then depending on where you dropped the files, that would determine where on the FTP site the files will get uploaded to. Nice & EZ instead of going thru an Open file dialog box. I am working on dragging FROM the FTP window right now :) FTP: When uploading many files at the same time, like (10 or more) and you are on a slow connection (modem), then it would be possible for some of the downloads to not get responded to for quite some time (>50 seconds) and then you get an error saying that the transfer couldn't complete. So, I upped the timeout period to 2 minutes. That seems to work pretty good. 04/20/00 Version 2.06 Fixed bug: If you had setup TurboView to be the default player for MPG or MOV files, then if you were double click on it to load & play then it would get stuck in a loop, also if you were in TurboView and loaded it from there, the same thing would happen. This is because TurboView was calling the "OPEN" function for the movie instead of the "PLAY" function :) You would only notice this if you had TurboView setup as the default viewer for the MPG/MOV movie types. This is now fixed!!! Fixed Bug: If you were playing an animated GIF file in the main TurboView window and you clicked to exit the program, then you would get an AccessViolation error. This is now fixed! FTP: Uploads are now launched into seperate upload windows just like the download windows are. This means that if you select 10 uploads, you DONT have to wait until all 10 uploads are completed before you get control back to do other stuff. 03/01/00 Version 2.05 Cleaned a few things up. Less System Resources are used now (8%) Improved a few things. FTP: Added the ability to select either BINARY or ASCII transfers. This helps when downloading text files from systems that are not in normal ASCII format! Fixed the Wallpaper functions to work better when shrinking 24bit jpg files Editor Options Window: Made it easier to enter the path of one of your favorite editors. You can now DRAG a shortcut from your desktop or Explorer or Start/Programs menu item RIGHT SMACK into the filename field of the Editor Options Window. That way if you don't know where you programs are located, you can just drag it from where you DO know how to access it! Better 256 color support! 24bit BMPs look better now in 256 video mode Converting 24bit files to another 24bit file format WHILE in 256 color mode AND you had "FORCE 24bit files to display as 256 color files", the resulting files would be 256 color files instead of 24 bit. THIS IS NOW FIXED! Fixed a bug where if you had JUST installed TurboView fresh on a system and it scans for your Graphic Editors, the problem was that EVERY TIME you ran TurboView, it would scan again. It just wasn't saving the findings :( This is now fixed :) Updated the HELP files. WebWizard: FTP Tools, when sorting the files in the list from the FTP tools tab, the ICONS displayed on the left of the filename were not sorted too :( This is now fixed! Added the ability to read the 00_INDEX.TXT files from the FTP site if there is one, in order to get descriptions for the files in the folders. There is now a Description Column in the Files List for the FTP Window. You can have up to 20 download windows going at the same time and you can also THROTTLE each window to control the speed of the download. VERY USEFUL if you want to speed one up and slow one down so the important one finishes sooner. You can also elect to close the download window upon completion of the download or to leave it open, so you can go to the folder where the file is, or to actually open/run the file you downloaded. 02/22/00 Version 2.05 Cleaned up a few things. Fixed a few little bugs. If you tried to convert to JPG thru the files list window, it would bomb out. It's now fixed :) Allowed for MPE and MPEG file types. WebWizard: NEW, it now has an FTP Publishing Window. Fully resizable and clean looking. And the Web Tools TAB on that window allows you to FTP anywhere. FTP is basically a way to access a remote computer's hard disk over the Internet. IE: If you have password access you could even create and delete and rename folders as well on it. The Web Tools (FTP) system is very nice and gives you a familiar TREE layout of the remote disk drive. This is how most people copy files to their Web server provider so that the whole world can see their web sit. You could actually use that screen for doing all your FTP NEEDS Reguardless if the FTPing you are doing has anything to do with TurboView or not. It's a stand alone FTP utility just for you :) It has a very nice TREE VIEW of the FTP site you are logging into and you can UP/DOWNload from the sites. WebWizard: Re-designed how the WebFolders work. Instead of keeping all the files in ONE folder, I have decided to break it up into 3 folders. For example: Let's say you have a folder called FAMILY_PICS. By keeping all the thumbnails and HTML files in the SAME folder as the pics, it sort of made it a pain to clean up, if you decided to not want to do the webfolder stuff on that folder. So, NOW THE NEW WAY is to create TWO sub-folders off of FAMILY_PICS. They are called WEBPAGES and WEBTHUMBS. So now there are 3 folders to deal with: FAMILY_PICS FAMILY_PICS\WEBPAGES FAMILY_PICS\WEBTHUMBS So now it's EZr to clean up and remove everything BUT the original pics. ALSO it allows for easier uploading options too. For example: you can pick what you might want to upload (pics only, webpage HTML files, thumbnails, etc..) WebWizard: Added PUBLISH (UPLOAD) Capability so that once you are done with creating web pages, you can now upload all the needed files to your WEB SERVER without having to do it with other FTP programs. You can now do it ALL from within TurboView. You can choose from several upload options. 1. Upload All 2. Upload Pictures 3. Upload HTML & Thumbnails 4. Upload HTML 5. Upload Needed Files (Files that are not already on Server will be uploaded, the rest will be skipped) 02/01/00 Version 2.05 WebWizard: Added the abiliity to CLEAN UP a Web Folder so that the only files remaining there are the ORIGINAL PICS and all the files that were created by Web Wizard are removed. Use the FILE menu option. WebWizard: TEMPLATE format. Instead of WebWizard creating the HTML files needed, I thought it would be cool to allow MORE USER CUSTOMIZATION. And with that in mind, I thought, let's let the user DESIGN the PAGE the way he/she want's. Use tables, fancy animated email boxes, page framing, sounds, music, basically design the web page in your own (familiar) web page editor. THEN, you would insert a special text string "[TAG_THUMBNAILS]" at the point in the template page where you want your thumbnails to appear. Then click the "Make Web Pages" button and POOF, All the pages are created to look like your template, AND the thumbnails are inserted at the proper spot!!! SUPER FEATURE!! So, if you want something fancier than the basic WebWizard features, just ues the template mode and then you are pretty much unlimited in what you can do. SPECIAL TAGS: There are many tags you can use in addition to the [TAG_ThumbNails] tag. Here is a list of the TAGS available. [TAG_ThumbNails], [TAG_PageNumbers], [TAG_NextPage], [TAG_HomePage], [TAG_Month], [TAG_MonthName], [TAG_Day], [TAG_DayName], [TAG_Year], [TAG_Hour], [TAG_Minute], [TAG_Second], [TAG_AmPm] SO by using these special tags you show the proper page number in the page and you can show current date & time if you wanted too. This is useful for having a line indicating when the page was last updated. 01/27/00 Version 2.05 Main Menu: When you choose an editor to edit with instead of just showing the name of the program that will run, it now shows it's ICON next to the name. This is helpful to help YOU remember what program will run if you get confused by filename. IE: PC Paint or PC Paint Brush. You may forget which is which by filename BUT you might KNOW which is which by ICON!!! WebWizard: NON Registered Version thumbnails maximum size is 50x50. WebWizard: You can now select an alternate program to use as your Web Folder Viewer. For ex: You may have MS Internet Explorer as your DEFAULT Internet browser, but you might want to use Netscape to view your Web Page files. WebWizard: There is now an EDIT capability. You can set up 3 Alternate editors to actually Edit your Web Page (.HTML) files. You can setup up to 3 Alternate editors. This is handy if you want to do some final polishing up of your Web Pages easily. Viewer. For ex: You may have MS Internet Explorer as your DEFAULT Internet browser, but you might want to use Netscape to view your Web Page files. Folder Selection: The pop up dialog that allows you to PICK A FOLDER is now much better. This pop up is used in many places in TurboView. It now shows you a files list on the right hand side. And you can click on a file to see what it looks like. Sometimes this is VERY HANDY in order to KNOW which folder you really want to pick. And of course the little preview can be double clicked on to bring up a FULL SIZED seperate window just like all the other preview panels in TurboView. WebWizard: Fixed it so that when you exit it and you have modified something, it asks if you want to save it and if you click CANCEL or press ESC, then it takes you back into the WebWizard where you left off. Center "Next Page" on a new line instead of on the same line the the page number. It now displays the total number of Images that are being put into the Web Pages. Somewhat useful. 01/24/00 Version 2.04 Better easier Web Page creation. Different levels of TurboView have different capability for the Web Wizard: SHAREWARE: Supports thumbnails max size of 300x300 (very big) Supports UNLIMITED pages of output for a Web Site REGISTERED: Supports thumbnails max size of 50x50(sort of small) Supports up to 1 pages of output for a Web Site PRO: Supports thumbnails max size of 300x300 (very big) Supports up to 10 pages of output for a Web Site SYSOP: Supports thumbnails max size of 300x300 (very big) Supports UNLIMITED pages of output for a Web Site So basically if you want to do a lot with the Web Wizard, you should get the PRO or SYSOP version of TurboView! README.TXT file is now quickly brought up, by using the HELP menu. Fixed little bug in selecting a recently used folder for moving/copying files in the files list window. If you select a file from the pulldown, then that folder moves to the top to the most recently used folders are at the top. This works fine, HOWEVER, if you were to click BROWSE to pick a DIFFERENT folder than from the list, it would add it to the TOP of the list. Again, this is fine. Here comes the rub, if you were to click browse to pick a different folder, BUT the folder you end up picking WAS ALREADY in the list then you would end up with 2 entries in the list for the same folder, and of course if you had done that several times, then you would have several dups :) THIS IS NOW FIXED! When ever you pick(select) a folder, the directory selection box that comes up is more powerful. It allows you to create new folders and rename folders and to delete folders. This dialog box pops up whenever you need to pick a folder for some reason. For ex: In the Files List Window, you click browse when you want to COPY or MOVE tagged files to a folder of your choice. There are other places too. This makes it nicer to deal with and you don't have to use Windows Explorer to do that sort of thing (creating & deleting folders)! 01/20/00 Version 2.03 Minor fixes. HTML Creation: Added the ability to create SIMPLE HTML code for you to create your own web pages EASILY. Nothing fancy, can be used to quickly build a site that maybe has all you vacation pics, or maybe new baby pics or whatever and you don't want to spend much time making it. Well, this MAKES all the thumbnails for you and copies all the images to ONE folder and it also puts the created HTML into that folder too. This way, all you have to do is to upload that ONE FOLDER to your web site via FTP or whatever. NOTE: ALTHOUGH this is the SIMPLE approarch, beware that if you have a lot of BIG images, then it's possible to run out of disk space while you are doing this. COPY/MOVE: When copying or moving tagged files, you would do it from the files list window. And there is a cool pulldown that holds the last 15 folders you used for copying/moving. Anyway, the only way you could pick a new folder that was NOT in the list, you had to click the BROWSE button to select a folder. Well, this is great for dumb users, but expert users want quicker options. SO, NOW you can actually TYPE into the folder field and as you are typing, the MOVE or COPY button as it may be, is made the default button, so that as you finish typing the path when you press return it AUTOmatically does the copy or move. That way, you don't have to move the mouse and click on the copy or move button :) RESOLVING BAD LINKS IN ALBUM: If the file that can't be found in the Album anymore, because maybe you renamed it or moved it or deleted it, was NOT in a folder, but instead was on the ROOT of the drive (Top Level directory), then the resolve bad link (search for the file somewhere else) logic would lock up. This is now fixed. 01/15/00 Version 2.02 More Minor fixes. More object oriented. RENAMING: Friendlier renaming. When renaming a file in the Files List Window by clicking on the RENAME FILE menu item or by clicking on the filename a second time, you get a window in which you can type a new name. Sometimes (by mistake) you may leave off the file's extension or maybe misspell it. If you do this, a warning will now pop up and ask if you want to keep what you did, OR to USE the OLD (correct) extension instead :) LARGE FONT APPEARANCE: Made all the speed buttons on the MAIN TurboView display that has a bunch of cool buttons look BETTER WHILE in Large Font mode. NOTE: Most people don't use that mode. PROPERTIES: Added new info in the properties window. If the file is a GIF file AND the GIF file has GIF COMMENTS embedded in the file, then those comments will be displayed too. MOST NON GIF files will not have comments. Added a new button for doing Screen Snap Shots. This button looks like a camera taking a flash picture! It does the same thing as using the Snap shot menu selection from the Main FILE menu. It's just a quick shortcut! Changed the 2 Magnifiying glasses on the Main TurboView window to to just ONE EYE-Glasses. This toggles the view between. Actual Size and Re-Size-To-Fit and Split View modes. This seems to make more intuitive sense. LARGE PREVIEWS: When you open up a large preview window by double-clicking on a file in the Files List Window or other windows or by pressing RETURN on a file name from a list of files, it would just show the picture in a full sized window. If the pic was REAL LARGE then the pic would be shrunk to fit the screen. THIS IS ALL FINE AND DANDY, EXCEPT... Animated GIF files would just show the first frame only. Now that I have figured out multitasking and multi- threading (programs within the program), I am now able to show animated GIFS in the large preview windows :) Yippie. But since the computer has to take the time to play each one(if you have multiple animaged large previews) the overall speed of each animation can appear a little slower and as a matter of practicality, once you reach about 20 animated previews opened at once the system will probably appear to be running slowly :( SCANNING: If you scanned from a scanner into a 24bit (TrueColor) BMP file, via the "Scan" File menu item, then depending on which photo editor you used, the blues & reds would appear incorrectly. IE: A photo of skin would look purpleish instead of flesh. This is now fixed. SCANNING: If you selected "Aquire" to load the scanning software to get a scanned picture, and then forgot that you had done that and then selected to AQUIRE AGAIN, then 2 copies of the scanning software would get loaded and depending of the scanning software it could get confused and blow up or lock up or maybe even work properly. So, I've changed it so that once you are in the AQUIRE state, you can't choose aquire again, UNTIL the scanning software returns with a pic. So the logic now is 1) Disable TurboView 2) AQUIRE scan pic 3) Enable TurboView. Added an check so that once a month it pops up a message box that allows you to jump to my web site to check for updates. Of course you can do it manually, but some people tend to forget to do it, so I remind them now once a month. The RECENTLY used folders to MOVE/COPY tagged files in the files list window has been expanded to hold the last 15 instead of 10. Update docs to reflect. ALSO, I have changed it so that the most recently used folders in the MOVE/COPY tabs float to the top so that when you add/browse new folders into the list the ones on the bottom get dropped off and the more recently used folders stay in the list. Before if you used one at the bottom a lot it would stay there and when you added a new one to the list , the one at the bottom would get dropped off and thus you would not have a commonly used folder in you list any more. SOrt of annoying :) PCX: Fixed a little palette bug, if you loaded a 16 color PCX file that had an older palette type, then it would appear as a black image, this is now fixed. DRAGGING: I have this neat feature that allows you to control what file types are allowed to be dragged into TurboView. This feature has been there since day one. You can access it from the MAIN File Menu. It's called something like "Allowable File Types For Dragging". That way you can drag a whole folder and only the image files & multimedia files will be dragged in. Very nice feature. BUT, you can also CHANGE it so that for example only JPG files can be dragged in. Well, here's the rub, if you went into the Album manager and dragged an Album into the Files List Window, then only the JPGS would get put into the Files List Window and all the other files in the Album would be ignored. :( Well, this is fixed now, so that the Album manager IGNORES the setting you have for AllowableFileTypesToDrag. So, whatever you dragged from the Album Tree WILL IN FACT get dragged into the Files List Window. Of course dragging from explorer folders or other apps will STILL get FILTERED!! GIF COMMENTS: The displaying of the GIF comments in ANIMATED GIF files is better. It waits until you STOP playing the GIF, then the comments are displayed if any exist! ALSO, WHILE IN Slide Show, if you have gif comments turned on, then they will appear while you are doing the slide show in the upper left hand corner of the screen. LARGE PREVIEWS: If the pic was larger than the screen size, then the image was shrunk to fit within the screen limits. This is fine and ok, BUT I DECIDED to take advantage of the SMOOTH SHRINKING option and honor it. So if you have the SMOOTH SHRINKING turned on (blue circle is smooth), then the Large Preview will ALSO display the shrunken images as smoother & better. The only disadvantage is that on slower machines, it slows it down slightly(not much). Album Stuff: When docked to the Files List Window, the Album tree covers up some buttons on the bottom of the FLW. You can of course resize the tree with the blue verticle resize bar. BUT FOR NOVICES that have never used TV before least used the FLW, they would not even know there are buttons to uncover :( So, I will make it so that as your stretch the FLW wider, it will keep the width of the Album Tree the same and thus start to uncover the buttons :) 11/28/99 Version 2.01 Minor fixes, sorry 11/24/99 Version 2.0 SNAP SHOTS: When doing screen snap shots or pasting from clipboard, you can now select quickly to save as 256 color GIF or JPG or 24bit BMP file. Makes it nicer to have those saving options. I added this option because I found myself always going to the FILE/SAVE AS and exporting to GIF because I was emailing snap shots of my screen and wanted the file size to be relatively small. PASSWORD PROTECTION: Added password protection ability. Just click on the main FILE menu and select Paranoia Options and then pick Password Setup. Then once the password is setup that's it. Then whenever you want to protect some files, just tagged a bunch of files then go into the Files List Window and click on the PASSWORD PROTECT tab and then select PROTECT and then click DO ACTION. For details on password stuff, look in the HELPCOOLUSES.HTML file. Minute things. Like making sure all the trashcans on all of the screens look either full or empty depending on if there are any files in the TurboView Recycle Bin. BITMAP Saving: You can now pick 8 colors and if you pick 16 colorsVGA, then the actual format of the file will be 4bit which makes for a smaller file. Before it would save in 8bit. So for files with FEW colors the 16 color BMP files created will now be 1/2 as big :) 11/22/99 Version 2.0 Some Minor NT issues solved. Minor fixes. Minor Help File additions. If NO sound card, then no errors when attempting to play sound files that are of no real importance, like in game play etc... 11/18/99 Version 2.0 ALBUMS: Little annoyance, when dragging files from a NORMAL Album to a NORMAL Album, it appears that the currently displayed Album got sorted by Folder. When in actuality it shouldn't be resorted at all. So now this is fixed :) EXPORTING: When saving/exporting files, if the disk was full you were not notified which meant the file you saved wasn't really saved :( Well, now it gives you an error so you KNOW and then you have the chance to save it again to a different drive :) GIF SAVING: I am so embarrassed. If the image you are attempting to save as a GIF is a 16 color or 2 color image then it kinda sorta didn't save :( It assumed that the source would be at least 256 color or TRUE-COLOR. This is now fixed. So now it doesn't matter what the source image is, you can now save it to a GIF. I already checked out the OTHER formats as well, they work properly. It was just the GIF that needed fixing! JPG SAVING: There was a BUG in the JPG code that came with the compiler :( So, I fixed it. Basically, it didn't report DISK FULL conditions when saving JPG files out. NOW IT DOES :), So, when saving files, it tells you if the disk gets full or is write protected. And then gives you the chance to save it somewhere else so you don't end up losing the file! DELETING FILES: If you only had ONE file in the Files List, and you delete it, then instead of showing black it would show a colored square and it would give an error that the Files List got messed up. This was because there were NO MORE FILES in the files list and it was trying to display the previous file. So, now, if there are NO FILES LEFT after the delete I just blank out the main display panel and DONT attempt to load any files. IE: It's fixed! RECYCLEBIN: Changed the way it works a little. It now supports a PREVIEW panel that shows you what the picture or movie or sound file is like. I ran into a situation where I didn't know if I wanted to restore a file or not from the BIN and thought "DARN", it sure would be nice to have a preview panel. SO, THERE IS ONE NOW!!!! :) BTW: I ALSO CHANGED the way the files are named in the BIN. For example: PAM_NICE.JPG.0 PAULA.BMP.2 TREE.BMP.4 I Named them the same name as from where they came from AND APPENDED a new extension to them. This would be a number and every one would be unique, so if I deleted 2 files of the SAME NAME from 2 DIFFERENT FOLDERS, that they would not conflict in the BIN names. Well, that meant you couldn't view the BIN files with Explorer or anything actually. They are now named: 0.PAM_NICE.JPG 2.PAULA.BMP 4.TREE.BMP This way, you get the same benefits of naming collision safety AND it STILL HAS THE original extension which means anybody can use(view) those files. ALBUMS: Currently you could see a small preview of each file in an Album by selecting it and then the preview window to the right of the list would show the picture. Well, that's great, BUT FOR MULTIMEDIA FILES, it would just say "Not A Picture". You were forced to use the Files List Window to preview the movies & sound files :( WELL THAT IS NOW FIXED. THERE is multimedia support in the Album Manager, Search Window & NOTES DataBase Editor. The player looks just like the player from the main TurboView screen would have looked like. In fact EVERYWHERE you have a preview panel, it supports the multimedia stuff too :) MOUSE WHEEL: Support for the MOUSE WHEEL is also added to the Files List Window and the Results panel in the Search List window and basically everywhere you see a LIST of items. Just use the mouse wheel to scroll up and down thru the visible list. MOUSE WHEEL: When you double click on the small preview panel in the Files List Window or the Albums Manager or other screens, you will see a LARGE PREVIEW window pop up for that image. If the image is BIGGER than the screen size it will be shrunk to fit. And if you double click on the window, it will toggle between ACTUAL SIZE and SHRINK TO FIT modes. In the actual size mode you can scroll up and down thru the image. All this works as planned. THE NEW ADDITION IS to support a mouse wheel. SO NOW all you have to do is to move the mouse wheel up and down in the LARGE PREVIEW window and it will scroll the image for you if the image is in actual size mode and the window is smaller than the real image (IE: there will be scroll bars). RESOURCES: Made it consume less resources by a little bit. It was taking up 12%, and now it takes up 9%. It used to take about 24% back in the summer. ALBUMS: SORTING, when sorting by name, it actually sorted by folder then name as opposed to just by name. This is now fixed :) ALBUMS: When DROPping a file into the Album list window and the Album is LOCKED, then the file you dragged in gets added to the list AND COPIED on your hard drive like it SHOULD. The catch was, that it didn't make the file selected which also meant that it didn't show up in the preview window. This is now fixed, so that not matter what type of Album you are dropping on, it will show that file in the preview window after you drop the file. Added a new item to the POP-UP menu for the main TV window. Along with the other commonly used menu items, I've added the PUZZLE-FUN to it also. So all you have to do is RIGHT CLICK your mouse while in the Main window and then select your favorite function. When playing WAV files or AVI files or other sound/movie files, then pause & stop buttons wouldn't show as you were going down thru the list. Not a big deal but if you wanted to stop the playing of the file, you had to click on the PLAY button and THEN the pause & stop buttons would show up and then you could click on those buttons :( NOW, the pause and stop buttons appear at the start of the playing of the multimedia file. GAMES: Better way to start/stop a game from the Puzzle-Fun games window. HELP FILES: Updated the help files to include the docs for the PUZZLE-FUN games. 11/12/99 Version 2.0 HELP FILES: Updated the help files and the web site to reflect all the NEW changes to the program since version 1.88 and now it's called version 2.0 WEB SITE: Web site updated to show all new additions. FIXED: Some little annoying things. GAMES: Added what I call Puzzle-Fun. These are games that you can do with your pictures :) Just go to Puzzle-Fun from the main menu. You will like it! ALBUMS: Made MOVING of files from LOCKED Albums to LOCKED Albums a little smoother with LESS questions to answer. AND, INSTEAD of copying the files to the destination and then deleting the files from the source, I now do a movefile operation. That way the recyclebin doesn't fill up with stuff that's not really academically deleted. CATALOG: Fixed the display of the page numbers. Sometimes it would show "0" FULL SCREEN: When in full screen mode, you had 2 choices, ACTUAL SIZE and RE-SIZE TO FIT screen. Well, I thought about it and I think the BEST choice was not available. So I ADDED A NEW CHOICE. This is called SHRINK IF NEEDED. So now the images are always actual size, UNLESS they are too large for the screen, in which case they are shrunk to fit. I liked this option so much for the SLIDE SHOW, that I decided to add it to the normal viewing operation in FULL SCREEN mode. RECYCLEBIN: When you open the TurboView's Recycle Bin it used to be that you had to close it out before you could continue with TurboView. It was a MODAL window. I have changed it so that NOW IT IS NON-MODAL. This means you can open it up AND LEAVE IT ON YOUR SCREEN, WHILE you continue your work in TurboView :) And it's smart enough to MONITOR any changes that may get made to the RecycleBin by other copies of TurboVIew that may be running etc... :) It's pretty cool, as the contents of the BIN changes behind my back, the Recycle Bin window AUTO updates itself evey 2 seconds if changes are noticed. 11/08/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE GENERAL: Added some nice sounds :) when errors or warnings occur. ALBUMS: Took care of all possible combinations of moving & copying files to NORMAL Albums and LOCKED Albums. There were about 10 ways to do it including some I hadn't thought of. Well, it all works perfectly now. I even take care of STUPID USER errors like trying to move files from one LOCKED Album to another LOCKED Album in which the folders they are locked to are the same :) ALBUMS: You can now MOVE files within the Album manager. So you can MOVE from Album to Album by holding down the shift key WHILE you are dragging the file(s) or Album. When you move, the ALBUM where you moved FROM will then have LESS files in it :) So NOW you can COPY or MOVE files from Album to Album and the Albums can either be NORMAL or FOLDER type. So now you can do MOST of your file management right from the Album manager instead of using Windows Explorer or the Files List Window. GENERAL: If you use the CATALOG option or ,REMOVE they require that you have tagged some files. Alot of times I load a bunch of files into the files list and then I click CATALOG thinking I want to catalog ALL the files I loaded, but the message would come up that I didn't tag any files yet :( Well now for those two(2) functions only, I have added an option to allow you to quickly tag all files and then do the function. SAVING FILES: When saving(exporting) a file it will now ask if you want the NEW FILE to be added to the current files list window. This makes it very very very handy when doing screen shots. Because after you do the screen shot and then SAVE IT to a GIF or whatever you then have the opportunity to have that file in the loaded list of files so you can EASILY DRAG from the TurboView window to an email program or whatever. So now the process of sending someone a screenshot becomes EZ. 1. Press PRINT-SCREEN key 2. Selete PASTE from the TurboView menu 3. Click FILE/SAVE AS so as to make the file a GIF or JPG or whatever. (This is because the default format for the screen shot is a TRUE COLOR BMP file which is usually pretty large) 4. DRAG the new file from the TV MAIN window to your email program. GENERAL: The scanning of files is quicker now. In some cases it's 6 times faster. In general it's about twice as fast. ALBUMS: If you open an Album with NO files in it, then the preview window is cleared instead of keeping on showing the LAST real image that was shown. DELETING FILES: When you delete files in TurboView, the deleted files NOW go to TurboView's Recycle Bin. The reason I don't use the standard Windows RECYCLE BIN is because some files WON'T GO THERE. This is because the file in question may NOT be located on a drive that supports a RECYCLE BIN. In which case the file is truely and forever deleted :( I felt MY WAY was a better way. There is ALSO a RECYCLE BIN button on each window that suppports deleting of files. Just click the RECYCLE BIN button and you can recover what you want. Using TurboView's Recycle Bin, it doesn't matter where the file is being deleted from. It could even be from a floppy or network drive. Makes no difference I WILL ALLOW undo on those deletes. NOTE: WHEN THE RECYCLE BIN FILLS UP and runs out of room, the OLDEST deleted files in there will get deleted for good to allow room for the newer deletes. It will always to to make sure you have at least 5MB of free disk space at all times. CATALOGER: When you tag a bunch of files and goto the Cataloger, then select how many rows for each catalog page, it shows the TOTAL NUMBER of catalog pages that COULD be produced. Well this works GREAT 99% of the time. If the LAST image in the last catalog page happens to be the last one that could fit on the page (ie: lower right hand corner) Then the TOTAL pages is wrong. It shows ONE MORE than it should. Well this is now fixed. If I determine that a page is full I increment the page count, but at the end, if I detect that no new images were placed on the next page, then the toal page count is decremented by one. 11/03/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE NEW BUTTONS: There are now new buttons in the main TurboView toolbar and in the Files List Window toolbar. Main Toolbar button additions: Cataloger, Album Manager, Files List Files List Window additions: Cataloger, Album Manager These new buttons give quicker access to these commonly used features. FILES LIST WINDOW: When you click on the DB-FIELD colum to change the contents of the field, then edit box flashes blue then white 3 times to let you know that the edit box is ready for you to change. FILES LIST WINDOW: If you make changes to the DB-FIELD in the little edit box and press ESCAPE then it restores the contents of the DB-EDIT field. If you press ESCAPE at ANY OTHER TIME in the Files List Window, then the window will close! ALBUMS: If you specified an Album to be locked to a "FOLDER" instead of "NORMAL" then when you drag files onto that Album, it will ask you if you want to actually COPY THE FILES TO THE LINKED FOLDER ON YOUR DRIVE. Albums are either "NORMAL" or "FOLDER". When it's "NORMAL" then you can copy move remove files from the Album and NO CHANGES are made to files on your hard drives. BUT WHEN your Album is "FOLDER" then it's actually LOCKED ONTO a specified folder on your drive. So whenever you add/delete files from THAT folder, the ALBUM will reflect the changes. In THIS case the list of files in Album ISN'T maintained by TurboView, the list is actually obtained by reading in the specified folder from the drive. Before if you tried to drag files to a locked Album, it would say NO CAN DO because it's actually not a normal Album. BUT NOW IT is smarter. It will ASK if you want to do it and that if you DO DO it, that the files will actually be COPIED INTO THE REAL FOLDER on your drive. ALBUMS: The files list has 2 columns now. FileName & Folder. And you can sort by EITHER column :) This makes it nicer because if you had files in the Album with LONG path(folder) names then you would have to scroll the window to the right in order to see the actual filename itself. NOW, you can see the filenames right from the get go. Also the sorting is handy if you have files from all over your system and you want to group them by folder in the window list. ALBUMS: Even though you can specify where to AUTO-DOCK from the main OPTIONS MENU, I thought it would be nice to to have the ability to specify where to DOCK from withing the Album Tree Pop-Up menu. So, now you can tell it to DOCK on TOP/BOTTOM/RIGHT-SIDE at will. ALBUMS: Added ability to turn off the HINT that keeps showing in the Album Tree. Just right click and click the appropriate menu option to turn it off:) ALBUMS: Since the Album Manager has a file list window, I thought it would be nice if it operated similar to the Files List Window. IE: When you press the SPACE-BAR it should show the hi-lited file as being tagged/untagged. This is for user operation consistency :) 11/02/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE SLIDESHOW: There is a new option. It's called RANDOM SLIDE SHOW. Go to slide Shop Options and check it and then the slide shows will be in a Pseudo random order. Not a true random order, but BETTER than random. Let's pretend that you have 3 pics and you choose random, then based on RANDOM it would be possible that you could see pic1 then pic2 then pic1 then pic3. Well as you can see pic1 was displayed twice before all the other pics in the list were displayed. The way "I" do it is that once a pic is displayed it is NOT DISPLAYED again until all the pics in the list have been displayed :) I like that method MUCH better than TRUE random. GENERAL: If you have the TASKBAR at the bottom/side of your screen ALWAYS visible, then when TurboView would load an image that would make the TV screen very big, it would hide/overrun the task bar :( This is now fixed. Also when TILING the LARGE PREVIEW WINDOWS, the same thing would occur and now THAT'S fixed too :) DOCKING: You can now specify one of three(3) ways to DOCK the Album Tree to the Files List Window. 1. DOCK to bottom 2. DOCK to Top 3. DOCK to RIght hand side The options to control this are located in the OPTIONS menu in the Main TurboView window. You can also indicate if the Files List Menu should come up with the Album Tree docked automatically. 10/29/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE ALBUMS: After using the DOCKing feature for the Albums for awhile, I decided that I REALLY LIKED it SOOOOOO much that I have made it the DEFAULT :) BUT, don't worry, if YOU don't like it docked you can change it. There's an option OPTIONS menu called "AUTO Dock Albums To File List Window" ALBUMS: Added option so that you could specify that the Files List Window should come up with the Album Manager DOCKED into it from the get go. ALBUMS: I have lots of Albums now and there were a couple that I kept forgetting what was in there. Even by naming the Album, I wasn't really able to easily remember what it was used for. So, NOW I HAVE ADDED THE ALBUM COMMENTS capability. You can now apply comments to all of your Albums so that later you can look at the comments for special purposes :) ALBUMS: You can change the properties of your Albums from "FOLDER" or "NORMAL" at anytime after creating the Album. ALBUMS: I started to use the hell out of the Album Manager while DOCKed and ran into an Annoyance. Let's pretend you make an Album called "Vacation Pics" and you drag in ALL the files from you folder called: C:\SCANNER\PICS\VACATION Then when you click on the VACATION PICS Album, you will see all you pics. Well, that's the way it's supposed to work and that's fine. BUT, THE ANNOYANCE COMES into play when you add a couple of pics to the: C:\SCANNER\PICS\VACATION NOW, when I go to the VACATION PICS Album, I "NATURALLY" expected those new pics to be in there :) Of course since I didn't manually add them they would not be in there, but I just FELT that I would see them and when I didn't, I thought, "CRAPOLA, where are they!". I then smiled and realized that the only files that show are files that I dragged in there. So NOW I HAVE ADDED A NEW CAPABILITY. I call it FOLDER SYNCRONIZATION (locking). Basically when you add an Album you can tell it to LOCK to a folder on your system. You never have to drag files into it because that Album will will get its files list from the folder that you specify. NOW THAT'S SMART :) 10/28/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE EDITOR: When editing a image thru the TurboView EDIT menu, it used to KEEP the TurboView main window on the screen in disabled mode. That meant you couldn't move it out of the way while editing :( This is NOW FIXED, the Main Window actually disappears WHILE you are editing. After you exit the editor, the Main Window comes back into view :) FIXED EXPORT: If you saved an image as a 24bit(16 million) color BMP and the original image was 256 or less colors or had a palette then the saved BMP image would NOT look right when used as wallpaper. The colors would be swapped. The Blue and Red and Green would be shifted so it would look like you are looking at the image with GREEN or BLUE or RED sunglasses :) For some wierd reason, the WALLPAPER function in Windows REQUIRES that the 24bit BMP has NO PALEETE :( VERY STUPID. Well it's now fixed, if saving to 24bit bmp, I REMOVE the palette from the file. WALLPAPER: PROB: Better wallpaper support. If you had a BMP or JPG file showing and you selected to make it your wallpaper, then it would copy the file to the windows folder and set things right. The only hang-up is that JPG files made as wallpaper makes your desktop a little slower. IE: If you take a program window and MOVE IT AROUND REAL FAST over your background you will see a slight herky jerky in the motion, whereas BMP wallpapers are SUPER FAST in allowing things to move all over it fast. IN ADDITION, you couldn't use GIF or PCX or TGA or PNG files as your background. FIX: SO NOW ANY FILE you elect to be your background is now converted to a BMP in the windows folder so that the wallpaper action is FAST FAST. Your original file is not modified. NEW: When saving to WallPaper, if it determines that the SIZE of the image is bigger than the screen size, it gives you the opportunity to SHRINK the image when saving the image to the Windows folder. You could of use the SHRINK TO FIT WALL PAPER mode, but TURBOVIEW does a MUCH BETTER job of shrinking images than Windows!!! It looks MUCH smoooooother! NEW: When saving for wallpaper it asks if you want the Wallpaper to be in 256 color mode. That way if you decide you want to operate your screen in 256 color mode, the wallpaper will STILL LOOK VERY GOOD in terms of how the colors look. ALBUMS: It appears that when the Album Manager was DOCKED to the Files List Window, for some wierd reason some of the ALT key sequences were ignored. Like ALT-F to pull down the FILE MENU and CATALOGS: In the catalog window, if you chose to SAVE to a disk file and didn't give the catalog filename an extension, it would give you warning saying that you must provide an extension. Well that is FINE because it NEEDS an extension to KNOW what graphic format to use when saving the catalog file. The ANNOYANCE comes in when you give a filename AND PICK a format from the "Save As File" pull down in the Save Catalog dialog, it would STILL GIVE YOU the warning. This is now fixed so that if you SPECIFY a file type of JPG or BMP and type in a name without an extension, it's now smart enough to KNOW to add the appropriate extension to the filename :) That's how it should have worked all along. ALBUMS: If you clicked "From Album To Files List" then it loads up the files list with the files that were in the selected Album. That part worked fine. If you had the Files List Window open at the time, then you would notice that the first file in the list got displayed in the little preview panel. That's fine too. BUT if you had the Main TurboView window open, it DIDN'T display the first pic in the files list :( This is now fixed, so that after you click that button, the Main TV window will display the first file from the Album!!! Made the appropriate changes so that the NON-Registered version of TurboView will support a max of 7 Albums in the Album tree. Anything more than that will produce an error message. Also, the Registered version will support a maximum of 20 Albums. The PRO supports 50 and SYSOP version will have UNLIMITED support. SORRY Dudes: I changed the name of the Album Tree folder yet again. I am trying to keep it as short as possible and yet meaningful. So instead of "AlbumTree_TurboView" I am calling it "Albums_TurboView". So, if you want to be able to access any Albums you have created already, you need to RENAME your folder on your drive, then TurboView will see it and access it. 10/26/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE NOTE: Here is another great use for Album: Let's say you have a few pics that you want to email someone or you have a few pics/wavs that you are having trouble with. Well instead of COPYING them to another folder to keep for testing, you can just group them together in an album and then you don't have to waste extra disk space. ALSO You CLIPART folder is probably HUUUUUUGE and everytime you want to pick something from it, you have to wade thru all kinds of files before you find the one you want, well again, just make an Album called ClipArt, then under that create a few more sub- albums, like Sports, Party, Diplomas, Etc... Then drag the appropriate cliparts to their respective ALBUM and then when ever you want to find a particular clipart file it will be EZZZZZZ to find it and all with NO EXXTRA disk space or file duplication. I HATE DUPLICATION!!!! I HATE DUPLICATION!!!! I HATE DUPLICATION!!!! I HATE DUPLICATION!!!! :) lolol Get it ??? Redundant! You no longer NEED to have at least 1 files loaded before you can go to the files list window!!! When you load the Files List Window, the MAIN window is now gone. That way you don't have this Main TurboView window that is not movable etc... It kind of got irritating that once I opened the Files List Window that the main window became sort of inoperable so now it's just GONE!! When you exit the Files List Window then Main Window comes back into view once again. I think it's a smoother operation. Album Manager: 1. If you end up with more than one link in the Album that points to the SAME file, then it will automatically get removed. That's AUTO housecleaning :) 2. If you were to move/rename/delete by other means than TurboView such as Windows Explorer or some other file manager, you will have links in the Album that are incorrect. The next time you bring up an Album with bad links, you will see a message pop-up stating that the Album file(s) can't be found. You are then prompted to FIX the error and point to the correct path. Once you pick a path then you are asked to FIX ALL ALBUMS. If you pick yes, then all links in All Albums that had the SAME file in it are also updated to point to the same path :) 3. If you move an entire folder of files that happened to be in an Album and you did it without TurboView, then the next time you bring up the Album you will have a lot of links to resolve and you will be doing a lot of clicking on the browse button :) So, now there is a RESOLVE WINDOW that displays ALL bad links files in the Album you displayed. This window shows only the bad linked files. You can resolve a single file and it will AUTOmatically apply the SAME path to all files in the bad list. That way if you moved a lot of files to a new folder or renamed a folder name, it will auto fix the links for you without you having to do each one at a time :) 4. The Album list wasn't always in sorted order. It was in the order the folders were created on disk. :( WELL, it IS NOW :) 5. SUPER FASTER!! ABOUT 10 to 20 TIMES FASTER for dropping files and loading Albums. On smaller Albums you wouldn't notice, but on Albums that have 5,000 files or more you can REALLLLY tell the difference now!!! I've tested it with 18000 files in Albums just for kicks and it works very fast! Well, since you can drag/drop from anywhere to anywhere, I've decided to make it so that it doesn't support the manual creation of shorcuts into the Album folders by other programs. YOU MUST USE TurboView to maintain the Album lists:( SORRY, but it makes it MUCH MORE EFFICIENT and faster and less disk space used!!!! So much more benefits with basically NO LOSS in functionality since you can do all the dragging you want from within the Album Manager! 6. Nothing here :) 7. Added the ability to dock/merge the ALbum Tree INTO the Files List Window. This is VERY handy. Of course you can UN-Dock it too :) 8. POP-UP menu by the right-click in the Album Tree. ESPECIALLY USEFUL when the Album Tree is docked and you can't see any buttons to click 9. While the Album Manager is DOCKED, you can click on an Album and those pics that are in the Album can AUTOmatically load into the files list by using a simple check-box. 10. Prettier looking Album tree. The folders look more like they do in the Windows Explorer program. Nicer feel to it :) 11. You can now select what folder you want to put your Albums into. It can even be on a different drive or even a Network path :) I suppose you could even keep SEPERATE ALBUMS. One for yourself and one for your Wife or whatever. Then when you load the Album Manager, you can then switch to the Album folder of your choice. Then POOF, your Album Tree will get loaded :) 10/19/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE Album Manager: NEW LOOK to the Album Manager Basically you can DRAG or DROP from either the Album Window or the Selected Album's Files List. Very flexible now. When dragging from the Album Files List, you can have multiple files HI-LITED to drag if you wish. You can now drag into the ALBUM Window too :) That way you can have all of your different albums showing in the Album Window and then drag files to whatever album name you want to INSTEAD of HAVING to open up a Album then dragging into the Album Files List. You can now drag a FOLDER into the Album Window or Album Files List. Please keep in mind it will NOT include sub-folders of the folder you are dragging. This prevents accidental MASSIVE Album adds where the folder you are dragging has many subfolders with lots of files in each :) You can now drag FROM the album files list to the Files List Window. I am not certain just how useful that is, but you can do it :) You can how hi-lited multiple files at a time and tag & untag in many various ways to ease in removing operations. You can now take files from the Files List window and place them into an Album EASILY without dragging. You can either take all files from the files list window or just tagged files from the files list window. The ALBUM manager is now a little smarter. If one of your Albums has a shortcut to a file on your system that you end up MOVING, then a pop-up BROWSE button allows you to resolve the path to the file. AND ONCE you have selected the appropriate path, it will AUTOMATICALLY go thru ALL ALBUM folders making the SAME changes to any shortcut link that matches the one you just changed. That way if you have the SAME file in several Albums and you moved the file, you would only have to do the resolve browse once and the rest of the Albums that had the same file in it will be AUTO updated point to the path you selected :) The Album manager is USER friendly in that it is setup to use FOLDERS. The ALBUMS folder is in the TurboView folder. So for ex: If you had TurboView in C>\COOL UTILS\TURBOVIEW Then the ALBUMS would be kept in: C>\COOL UTILS\TURBOVIEW\ALBUMS And all of the files that are associated with particular Albums are stored as shortcut links (lnk) in their respective album folders. This way you could actually do all the Album management outside of TurboView by using Windows Explorer file manager and using the DRAG/DROP functions while holding down the SHIFT key and the CONTROL keys at the same to to make shortcuts instead of actually copying the files. The reason SHORTCUTS are better is because you could have the same file in many different Albums with out taking up a bunch of extra disk space :) When TurboView's Album manager loads, it looks at the Albums folder and looks for sub-folders and it builds it's Album List. Then when you click on a part- icular Album, it then loads all of the shortcut links files into the Files List. Very Very Very compatible way of setting it up. 10/18/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE First attempt at producing ALBUMS and editing ALBUMS and loading ALBUMS. It's pretty infantile but yet VERY useful! Just click on the FILE/ALBUM Manger from the main menu or the Files List Window menu. Fixed annoyance: If you were in the Files List Window and clicked on a column to SORT BY that REQUIRES all of the File's info stuff, then it pops up a message that says it COULD take some time. If you press OK then it starts to get the info needed for the files. This is the Scanning File Info process. Well, if you decide that it's going to take toooo long, you were out of luck :( There is NOW a "Cancel Sort" button that you can click on to get out of the lenghty routine. NOTE: Of course the list won't be sorted :) Added the CATALOGING feature into the Main TurboView's FILE MENU! Fixed a little bug in the Files List. If you happened to be viewing the LAST file and then hilited some files and removed them from the list. At this point there are no hi-lited files. Then if you click "Exit & Display", then it would get confused as to what to display. Now if it looks like there is nothing to display, it now defaults to the LAST image in the list so that it at least displays something :) Much better looking now in 256 Windows screen video mode now. It used to look pretty dithered, now it's very smooth. Of course 256 color mode is NOT the best choice. I prefer either 16bit or 24bit. If your 24bit is FAST, then use that, otherwise use 16bit. TO test the speed, just go into the mode and then open up a program window that covers about HALF the screen and then DRAG it around the screen with the mouse AS FAST as you can and take note as to about how fast it looked. Then do the same in the other mode. Pick the mode that looked the smoothest and fastest. Fixed a little bug: If you were in 256 Color Windows Screen mode and loaded a JPG file and had the "Make TRUE-COLOR Images Load As 256 Color", then the image would appear pretty nice on the 256 color screen. THEN if you went to SAVE AS, then the resulting image would be goofed up :( This is now fixed. Nobody would probably ever try that, but Murphy's Law dictated that "I" try it :) 10/14/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE Fixed little bug: When you closed out the Files List Window, a lot of the time, the main TurboView window would not be the active window :( This is now fixed :) Improved the Searh Results when comparing for DUP Images The list of "Possible Folders To Exclude" at the bottom of the results list is now more accurate. Faster operations in the Search Window: Loading of FingerPrints into memory is about 2 to 3 times faster! Loading of MIS-MATCH List is about 20 times faster! Loading of EXCLUDE List is about 15 times faster! Fix LITTLE interesting bug: You probably would have NEVER seen it, BUT, if you were searching your big files list for DUP images, AND then while it was comparing fingerprints you decided to go to the Files List Window and then removed some files from the Files List or renamed some files or basically ALTERED the Files List in ANY WAY, then the RESULTING report from the SEARCH would show incorrect filenames. So now, WHILE it's searching, you can't make any other TV window the active window :) Made the Files List Window Minimizable so that it appears as a SEPERATE item on your task bar! The FIX/COMPACT Button for the Mis-Match Editor Window is now better. Instead of just simply removing entries for files that no longer exists. I take it a step further. I have about 28,000 files and I have a few Mis-Matches that I enter into the mis-match list. The problem is that in my haste I somtimes forget if I had already entered a mis-match set. Thus the mis-match list gets a little bigger when not needed :( Now the FIX/COMPACT actually looks for things that would be redundant in the list and removes them. So the list will always be as small as possible. The mis-match editor now has a "FIND" capability. This is great especially for larger lists and you want to see if a particular file is in there without having to load the MEMORIZED.TXT file manually into a notepad document. Fixed a little bug in the "Mis-Match List", there were occasions when it would think that a mis-match occured and thus NOT show the certain mathces in the results list :( This occured when the files list was small and DIDN'T contain all of the filenames that were contained in the MIS-MATCH List. Under this situation the first file in the Files List COULD be flagged as a mis-match. This is now fixed, when the files list is small, then only the filenames from the mis-match list that are ALSO in the files list are put into a loaded memory table used to find mismatches. Fixed a little bug in the Search DUPS By Image Appearance: If you had checked "Allow slight Brightness Differences" then if you compare a black image with another image that is very close to black, then when I do my brighter/darker logic I basically add light or take away light from the image I am comparing. Well, this is correct, however when you take away light from a BLACK image, it sort of went negative a goofed the routine into thinking the 2 didn't match when in fact they should have :( This is now fixed. After taking away light on a black image, I just keep it black (0,0,0). Added better MORE INFO into the Results List. When you have a large group, and it appears that they don't seem to match, you could HI-LITE the whole group and then add it to the Mis-Match List. The only GOTTCHA with this is if a few images in the large group really DO seem to match pretty well. You wouldn't want to eliminate those pics that DO match by placing them into the Mis-Match list. So, in cases where you have a large match group and a lot of the images DO NOT match but a few DO, then it would sure be nice to KNOW which files were matched up with which files. You could then HI-LITE those pairs of files and add the pairs to the Mis-Match file. Well, the results info NOW contains which file# each file matched with. :) Fixed little GIF SAVING bug. If you didn't pay attention, you could accidentally make the saved GIF use a transparent color. Although this checkbox is VISIBLE and would have to be BLIND to NOT see that it is checked, you could STILL miss it because you may have just loaded a JPG and were about to save it as a GIF and you DIDN'T EXPECT the transparent box to be checked and so you don't really even look at it :( Well the only time it's supposed to be checked automatically is when you load a transparent GIF and then go to save it back out. It's SMART enough the check it for you so you don't forget. Well, I wasn't resetting the transparent flag so that IF you loaded a transparent GIF first, then loaded something else like a BMP or JPG the flag is still set. Then when you go to SAVE the Transparent box is CHECKED :) Well this is fixed, I reset the flag upon EVERY type of loaded image. Fixed DITHER(Color Reduction) so that on some images you don't get a speckle appearance when the original image TRUELY has few colors even though it may be a 24bit image. I know analize the image FIRST before dithering. Fixed little visual bug. Pressing ALT-V brings up the VIEW Menu on the main viewing window. Well, not only does it do that but it also toggles the viewing mode from "Actual size" to "Split View" to "ReSize-To-Fit". This was because the "V" key was used to toggle modes. I now check to make sure you dodn't have the ALT key down when the "V" key is processed :) If it is, then the only thing that happens if it brings up the VIEW MENU Slightly less resources needed yet again :) Program now takes less GDI Resources. Down to 12% from 16%(Two weeks ago it took 24%) I think this is about as good as it's going to get! Wow, I found a bug in the EXPORT TO GIF logic. You would probably NEVER notice it, but as Murphy would have it, "I" did. If you have a 256 color BMP file that has less than 256 used colors in it and the palette is not compacted (ie: unused entries in the middle of it and the LAST couple of entries ARE used then it would produce an incorrect palette :( This is now fixed!!! :) Better button layout in the Search Window Search Results info can now be sorted by quality of match when searching for DUP Images by appearance. There's a rating system from 0% to 100%. 100% would be the BEST match and 0% wouold be the poorest match. For lists that have a lot of entries, sometimes it's nice to sort the output by quality of match with all the best ones at the top of the list and the worst at the end. Just check the "Sort By Quality Of Match" checkbox. 10/02/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE Better placement of LARGE PREVIEW windows when they open up. Instead of comming up centered on your screen they show up in the upper left corner of your screen with each succesive one you open up being placed a little down and to the right. Added more help to the bottom of the Search Results report. So you can better now what to do and how to do better more accurate searches! The help shows up in BLUE text in the results window. Program now takes less GDI Resources. Down to 16% from 24% Better layout for the Search Window. Made the popup hints use YELLOW background color instead of WHITE. I think it looks better :) There is a cool new option in the Search Window. You have the ability to use what I call "MIS-MATCH List". If this checkbox is clear, then there is NO special processing done to the Results List. IF you DO check this box, then any files that appear to be matching will check first with the MIS-MATCH list BEFORE adding the matching images to the Results List. This is GREAT for images that are said to match, but in fact don't match at all. Basically, mistakes can be made. I would say one out of 50 are mistakes. That's not too bad, and with this mis-match list, you can filter out those that don't really match. What you do is do you regular search and then if you see some pics that don't really match, just hi-lite them and then click the LEARN button, it has an icon on it that looks like 2 images with a NOT SYMBOL over an equal "=" sign. Then you can add the mismatch pair to the mis-match list. You can even edit the mismatch list in case you made mistakes yourself :) Try it you will think it's cool. So, now that I have setup my mismatch list, my search for dup images are now SUPER CLEAN with no mistakes!!!!! :) After doing your FIRST BIG Search on all of your files in your system, you will probably notice that the results list is quite large. Although the results may show correct DUPS, you may not care about a lot of them. For example: Let's say a lot of them come from folders in applications that keep images needed for the program. You know, stuff like little icons and stuff. Well if you have a lot of Microsoft apps, then you will notice a lot of DUPS being reported because the same little icons & stuff appear in duplicate areas like maybe MS Internet Explorer and MS Image Composer and MS Outlook, etc.. So, at the end of the search Results list, there is a list of all folders that had at least 20 matches occuring in them. You can then decide to EXCLUDE these in your next search. You can just edit the Exclude List and add these folders to the exclude list. Simple as that :) Added ability to exclude matches for images that are way off in their aspect ratios. For example: It's possible that SOME images may appear as a match. On large Files Lists the chances for an erroneous match go up. To help eliminate these, we have included the "INCLUDE Matches On Large Aspect Differences" This will allow matches for images that are a lot wider or thinner than the image it matches on. Normally if you have 2 images that are the same except for one is a little wider this is possible. I've seen this occur a few times. BUT the chances that the images are 50% as wide or 50% as thin is pretty RARE unless you are PURPOSELY creating these stretched images for FUN :) So, now by default, these images that are GREATER than 50% the width will NOT produce a match. If you want any aspect to match the click this check box. Added ability to EXCLUDE SMALL images from the Search Window for looking for DUP images by appearance. This way small images like ICONs etc.. won't be looked at so that you can basically search for photos :) Just Click the INCLUDE SMALL IMAGES <64x64 to include ALL images of all sizes while searching. ADDED OPTION: Changed the Search Window's Delete button to look like the delete button on the main viewing window and added an UN-DELETE button too :) ADDED a little help text to the bottom of the search results for the Search Window functions. Made KEYBOARD operation for the Search Window better. Made button tabs go in a more natural sequence instead of jumping all over etc... Some people like to just use the keyboard instead of mouse clicking :) Made it so that all of the LARGE PREVIEW windows that you create have a NAME that you can click on in the task bar to display the window or to hide it. Even though you have the PREVIEW menu pull down to control the previews, this makes it realllll handy if you just wanted to bring up a specific preview that you had minimized. LARGE PREVIEW windows are created by double clicking on a small preview panel or by pressing return while the focus is on a filename or double clicking on a filename. 09/24/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE ADDED Friendlier interface for the Search Files Window, cooler looking buttons and repositioned some items for ease of use! ADDED EXCLUDE/INCLUDE option in the Search Window: Sometimes, I want to use the EZ method of loading up my files list by using the FILE menu option to load up an entire drive or even my entire system. Well, when I search for DUPS, it ends up finding a lot of DUPS that I KNOW I ALREADY HAVE. This is because I keep dups of special files in a folder called BEST. And I keep my WIn98 CD on my hard drive in a folder called D:\CD-ROM-WIN98 so that I don't have to keep getting my CD out when I upgrade stuff. Well now my DUPS results list ends up with a lot of stuff that I KNOW I don't even care to be looking at. ALSO, you might want to exclude your RECYCLE BIN as well. So that is why I added the EXCLUDE & INCLUDE folders option. You can specify a list of folders that will be IGNORED and not searched. So, any file that is in a folder that is in the EXCLUDE list will NOT be compared against. You can also specify to IGNORE the sub-folders in the specific folders as well. So, for me, I specify D:\CD-ROM-WIN98 and check to box that says to ignore sub-folders to that folder as well. THis is a handy option :) Now let's say that you have lots of sub-folders in a folder that you specified to be ignored. And let's further assume you checked the box to ignore sub-folders. And let's further assume that there just happens to be a folder that you DID WANT searched. Well, there is an INCLUDE list that takes priority over the EXCLUDE list. So, I could specify D:\CD-ROM-WIN98\DRIVERS\SPECIAL and then this way, ALL of the D:\CD-ROM-WIN98 folders and sub-folders will be ignored EXCEPT for the D:\CD-ROM-WIN98\DRIVERS\SPECIAL folder!!! Handy for blanket ignores with minor exceptions. Just like the EXCLUDE list supports a checkbox to ignore sub-folders, the INCLUDE list supports a check box to ALLOW sub-folders to be searched. FIXED BUG: In the search results window, if you had hi-lited 2 files and then clicked on the COMPARE 2 FILES button then they would be checked to see if they were in fact the same file but copies of each other. Well this worked fine & dandy, EXCEPT in one case. If the file you are comparing is a READ-ONLY file, then it would give an error saying that it couldn't access the file :( Well, that is now fixed. It will work on read-only files now as well :) ADDED OPTION: There is a MOVE/RENAME button in the Search Window. So now after you have done searched for DUPS, you are looking at the results report list, you can move/rename files with the Move/Rename button. This saves time from going to the Files List Window to do your renaming. Moving & renameing is handy in the search window because once you have found some dups, you may realize that they are in the wrong folder and you want to move them before you forget about it :) There is also a most recently used MOVED pulldown. This saves you time in case you have several folders that you are always moving stuff to. Speeded up the loading of files using the Open Files Dialog Box when there are a lot of files to be loaded, like if you use the "+" to load all files from the folder. It used to take 3 seconds to load 1400 files, it now takes 1 second. Fixed DataBase EXPORT bug. If you ran out of disk space WHILE EXPORTING, then it would just stop and say it was done :( I have now fixed it so it beeps and gives you an error message. 09/23/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE ADDED OPTION: Sometimes in the Files List Window the tool tip that gets displayed is kind of long and it sort of gets in the way of looking at other files info in the list. So NOW you can RIGHT-CLICK on the files list and then toggle the TOOL TIP. SO if you turn it off, it won't cover up stuff you want to see. ALSO In the Search Window, the results list has a tool tip that extends way to the right, right SMACK on top of the image preview window next to it and so if the tool tip is displayed, then you can't see your whole image :) So, again, RIGHT CLICK on the results window and toggle the tool tip off!!!!! IMPROVED IMAGE MATCHING: If you are comparing a few hundred or even 5000 files or so. Typically the results of matching images are very reasonable. Obviously it's not going to be PERFECT, but it's DARN close!!! I chose to error on the side on including instead of excluding. This means that if you have two images that match, then I WILL ALWAYS KNOW and they will show up in the list. If you have 2 images that are close then they will match too. Every ONCE in awhile you may see some images in my matching results groups that don't even look close to some of the other images in the SAME group:( This is because of what I will call MATCHING BLEEDING. MATCHING BLEEDING: This is when you have a number of images and they are all grouped together in the results list as being matching. It's possible that some of these are not even close to the others in the same group. Let's pretend that we are comparing a set of morhped images. Morphing is when you take 2 images and ctreate a series of images transforming image 1 to image 2. You could take MICHAEL JACKSON and morph him into DIANA ROSS :) And lets say it took 10 images to do this. Well 1 would look very close to 2 and 2 would look very close to 3 and 3 would look very close to 4 and so on. Well 1 would NOT look very close to 10 but they would ALL APPEAR in the SAME GROUP list. NOTE: Actually Jackson WOULD look very close to ROSS :) So, basically you can see how you could end up with some matching lists that seem like some images shouldn't be there! So I just picked a number 10. If there appears to be more than 10 images in a matching group, I take that group and process and filter it. I then create a series of SUB GROUPS. As in the example of Jackson, I may end up with 5 sub groups. 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8 9-10 Each of these SUB GROUP matches would appear in the results list as being a SUB GROUP to the same MAIN group #. This way you can STILL tell that all of the JACKSON to ROSS images really all belonged together. IMPROVED SPEED ON IMAGE MATCHING: Thru the magic of smart logic and assembler code, the process is now any where from 2 to 4 times faster now. I can do a CLOSE search with B&W checking and BRIGHTNESS checking for 32000 files in 45 minutes. If I just want to check for exact matches then it takes 10 minutes!!!!! Same type of operations done on 4000 files takes under a minute!!! Fixed BUG when reading compressed TARGA (*.TGA) files. It would simply just blow up :) Now they are read in properly. Added STOP button when building multiple catalogs at a time. So let's say you were building 100 catalog files and at number 30 you decided you wanted to stop, well before you had to wait :(, now there is a "STOP" button that you can click on :) There were a few options that allowed you to do operations on lots of tagged files. You could COPY, MOVE, DELETE, CONVERT, etc... All of these options had a question pop up if it looked like you were about to overwrite an existing file. And it asked "Do you want to overwrite?, Yes, No, Yes To All". Well this is all fine and dandy, BUT I decided to add "No To All" to the list of choices because I ran into a situation where I ACCIDENTALLY clicked delete tagged files and I realized I had about 4000 files tagged and I had to keep clicking "NO" for each file that was comming up with a warning. After clicking NO about 100 times, I just reboot :( and then decided to add "No To All" :) 09/16/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE Added a File DATE to the HELP/ABOUT box so you can see the Version AND the program compiled date!!! Updated all the help files to include the new features! WHEW! Revamped what you get with the various versions of TurboView. See the bottom of this readme.txt file to see the differences between the shareware and registered and pro and sysop versions. Added ability to compare "Tagged files with Files List" in the Search Window when searching for like images. This allows you to compare just a few files to the rest of your files in your system. Added New FILE/ menu option. There is now one that says "Load ALL IMAGES From All Hard Drives". Added Search "flashlight" Button to the Main TV window, just like the one in the Files List Window. Also, the is a SEARCH FILES menu option in the FILE menu. Added a FIND button and you can also press CTRL-F or F3 to find text within the results info in the Search File Window. You can search going UP or DOWN. Added NEW TAG button in the Search Window so you can tag files directly from there so that after you have gone thru the results display and have tagged the files you wanted to, then when you go back to the Files List Window, you could DELETE MOVE COPY or whatever to the tagged files :) You can also press the SPACE BAR to tag a file! Added a NEW FUNCTION to the Search Window. From the Files List Window, you can click on the search button to bring up the Search Window. This allows you to search the files list for Duplicate files based on filename or size or date or combinations of both. You can also search on duplicates based on the data in the NOTES field in the database for the files. **** NEW FEATURE **** The new search feature is called "BY IMAGE APPEARANCE" What this means is that you can find duplicate files based on the actual LOOK of the images :) There are 3 modes of operation. 1. Exact Match This means you want to find pictues that are basically the SAME picture without change. This will find pictures that had been renamed or copied to other folders or maybe even saved out under a different name and file type or even a different JPG quality factor. 2. Real Close(BEST) This is the best choice because it has more slack built into it. It will find MORE matches than the "EXACT" option. This one will even find pictures that are just similar. IE: 2 Shots of the same girl but maybe her head is turned in one of them. It will STILL come up as a match :) 3. Real Loose This is the worst for finding TRUE duplicates, but is the BEST for finding similar groups of images. IE: If you had a series of pictures that were of 2 girls by a pool, it will find most of these pics as matching. There is also a "Match On (B&W & BRIGHTNESS) option. This will find pictures that are basically the same but are in black & white or maybe a little brighter or darker. With this option turned ON it makes the search take about 2 times longer. NOTE: It is suggested to use the REAL CLOSE (BEST) option and the MATCH ON (B&W BRIGHTNESS) option when searching to give you the most commonly needed results. TIMINGS: For "EXACT" & no Match On (B&W & Brightness) it takes 3 seconds to search 1300 files for dups. With the "REAL CLOSE" option AND the "Match On (B&W & BRIGHTNESS) turned ON, it takes about 9 seconds. The same options used on 4,200 files takes about 1 MINUTE and 40 SECONDS! Another BUTTON called "LOAD LIST" is now available. Just like the SAVE LIST button SAVES the search results window to a text file for later printing or whatever, I have added a "LOAD LIST" button, so that you can load up a list you had saved earlier. You might wonder why allow for this. Let's say that you did a fairly big search and and the results were several hundred lines long. And let's also assume that you need to do something else with the computer. Instead of LOSING the results, you can save them and then maybe the next day, load the list back and then continue to browse the results text to see what files you may want to delete or whatever!!!! Fixed rare smoothing problem. If the image is being shrunk WAY WAY down then it would get confused. IE: 4200x4200 down to 8x8. Now it doesn't matter how far down you are going :) Decided to add a "SMOOTH SHRINKING" button into the ZOOM function. This way you can control the smoothing without having to change the overall TurboView smoothing setting. IE: You could have the TurboView SMOOTHING setting set ON so that any panels that display images look smoother after they are shrunk. And at the same time you can change the ZOOM smoothing to OFF so that the images are NOT smoothed when shrunk. And of course Vice/Versa. Personally I would leave them both ON. ANOTHER reason this is good is because let's PRETEND you have a slower computer and don't want the extra overhead of smoothing the shrunken images everytime you load a pic. So in this case you would have the smoothing turned OFF for the main program, and then when you ZOOM you can tell it to take the extra time for the smoothing by turning ON the smoothing in the ZOOM function only :) 09/3/99 Version 1.9.2FAKE NEW FEATURE: Added a ZOOM feature, you can indicate how big or small you want to make the current image. You can easily keep the aspect ratio too. In addition there is a cool button called "Use Screen Size". This will adjust the image size so that it will fit perfectly into the current screen size. To make the final image look better, you may want to make sure that the "Smooth SHRUNKEN Images On Screen" option is checked in the VIEW menu. This will produce nicer results if you are making the image smaller. Took the two buttons that looked like an open lock and a closed lock and turned it into a single button that changes appearance depending if the option is ON or OFF. Added Button to allow/disallow smooth shrinking of images, it's the GREEN circle button. "Keep Aspect Yes" and "Keep Aspect No" is now "Keep Aspect Yes/No" in the VIEW menu. SLIDESHOW: There was ACTUAL size and FIT TO SCREEN, well I decided to add another option. There is now a SHRINK IF NEEDED option. That way all the pics are shown as actual size UNLESS they are very big and need to be shrunk. I like this mode the best! Fixed little anoyance in slide show. If your delaytime was pretty big and you right clicked, then it waited until the delay time had fully elapsed. This is now fixed so that a right mouse click stops the slide show. Fixed little anoyance in slide show. Even on first pic, the delay is taken into account. This meant that if you had a big delay like 10 seconds, then it waits 10 seconds before displaying the first pic :( This is now fixed, for the first pic only there is now NO delay!!!! :) Sped up the shrinking routines. About 2 times faster. Fixed little bug where if you were scrolling thru a bunch of pics in the main TurboView window in Split Screen mode, then if you happened to hit a few pics with the SAME dimensions, then only the FIRST on would appear as the shrunken one in the bottom part of the split screen view. The TOP part would still change as it should. This is NOW fixed, I set a flag so that for every pic that is loaded, I REBUILD the resize-to-fit image that appears on the bottom half of the split screen. 08/10/99 Version 1.9.1 The catalog output is now much smoother because of the new smoothing technique that I am using. Improved the appearance of images that are SHRUNK to fit on the screen and in the thumbnails and in the small preview panel in the FilesListWindow and in the SlideShow(shrink-to-fit mode). Instead of using the Standard Windows shrink code, I wrote my own logic to reduce the image size while keeping diagonal lines smooth :) NOTE: THIS IS DONE ONLY IF you are NOT in 256 color screen mode. IE: 16bit, 24bit, 32bit. Added Thumbnail Catalog Printing capability. From the Files List Window, you can click on FILE and then pick Print catalog thumbnails. You can even select various options and preview what it would look like if printed before printing it. Then of course you can print it once you have the options set the way you like it. You can even SAVE the catalog images to disk with various resolution options. IMPROVED the "Recent Folders" so that when you click on one, it will AUTOMATICALLY put a "+" in as the filename so that all you have to do is to click on OPEN and then ALL files are selected!! Added PRINT menu to the Files List Window so that you don't have to click on the printer icon. Some people like to view the files list window in TALL mode which doesn't show the printer icon. The preview window that shows what a saved JPG file WOULD look like is now a scrollable window so that you see the ACTUAL image instead of some shrink- to-fit display for LARGE images. When determining what QUALITY factor you want for saving your JPG, this makes it EZr to see the results in the preview window!!!! Fixed bug in the slide show. If you had checked "Play WAV if there" then under certain conditions, the slide show would appear to stop on the 13th image and wouldn't continue until you pressed a key or clicked the mouse. Fixed bug where if you had a SUPER LARGE files (>1000) list and select a file other than a picture file, TurboView would appear to lock-up until all of the files are done being scanned for file info. If you had 10,000 files in the list this process could take a couple of minutes. So, if you had clicked on a WAV or MOV or AVI, then you would think your system was locked up. This is now fixed. If you have thousands of files in your files list and you HI-LITE some files and then attempt to DRAG them to another program, you would notice that it would TAKE a long time before you would get the DRAG ICON. THis is because for some stupid reason :) I thought I needed all files to have been scanned first. This is now corrected and you could have 30,000 files loaded into the files list and when you drag a file, you will see the drag icon immediately! Fixed a bug where if you were using the files list window to copy or move files to different folders, the list of the 10 most recent destination folders weren't updated correctly, it would only show the last 5 folders, it's now been expanded to show the last 10 :) for both COPY/MOVE tagged files operations. Fixed some cosmetic issues when running in LARGE font mode. Finally made it so that the WALLPAPER function works flawlessly. It used to be that the .BMP files set as wallpaper would get displayed IMMEDIATELY as long as your desktop did NOT use "Active Desktop/View as Web Page". If you had selected "View As Web Page", then it used to wait until you rebooted or had REFRESHED your desktop. NOW IT WORKS IN ALL MODES and you do not have to wait for it to display as your background wallpaper. Also, if you are viewing a file OTHER than JPG, GIF, BMP and you select to make it wallpaper, it first converts it to a .BMP file then puts it into your \WINDOWS folder. That way ANY file can be used as wallpaper :) WHEW, finally done the way I want it. 05/18/99 Version 1.8.9FAKE More polishing & minor fixes. Updated HELP Files. If you are in a windows video mode of 256 colors AND you are viewing an image that has 16million colors (TRUE-COLOR) in it , then there is an option that allows you to convert (reduce colors) the image to a 256 image in memory so that it displays nicely instead of looking like junk. This is the OPTIONS/MAKE TRUE COLOR IMAGES LOAD AS 256 DITHERED COLORS menu option. Just check it. It has NO effect if your video screen mode is MORE than 256 colors (16bit, 24bit, 32bit, TRUE-COLOR, HI-COLOR). Finished the Effects/Reduce Colors To... menu function. Whew You can now reduce the number of colors in an image to 2,4,8,16,32,64, 128 or 256 colors. There are special dither options too :) Such as DITHER or REMAP. Finished the FILE/SAVE AS function. All of the features work perfectly now, such as the color depth or 2, 16, 256 color when the original image was more. It will do the color reduction process first then save it. 05/02/99 Version 1.8.9FAKE Polished up a little bit here & there. Updated Help Files Made it so that the PRO version gets 15 entries for recent files & folders instead of 10. When using the SEARCH function, only the first 100 lines of output are displayed, unless you have the PRO version of TurboView Added MPG and MOV movies playing ability! Added ability to compare 2 files in the search results window! Much better search window functions Faster loading of lots of files into the files list. It's now about 3 times faster :) For example: My system has Drive C,D,E,F,G,H and about 30000 files of pictures & movies. It takes about 45 seconds to load all 30000 files into the files list! It used to take about 3 minutes. Added a NEW search item. You can now search on DUP File Size/Date & FullFileName More than likely if you find matches on these then the files are in fact DUPS! Made the SEARCHING routines MUCH MUCH faster, about 10 times faster :) So if you search for DUPS, you can search a files list of about 20,000 files for partial dups(longest time), in about 30 seconds!!! Finally added the Search for #2 & #4 in the search window: Partial DUP FileName Partial DUP DB FIELD 04/20/99 Version 1.8.8 REAL RELEASED VERSION! Added HELP files, FINALLY :) Unless you have PRO version, you can only use the CONVERT GRAPHIC FORMAT option 3 times. Pro version get unlimited database records NON registered gets 50 Registered gets 100 Added ability to view FLI and FLC movie files. These are AutoDesk movie files. Some other minor fixin's :) 04/13/99 Version 1.8.8fake Added a feature to change the size of the ThumbNails in the Files List Window. There are 6 sizes to choose from. Ranging from super smaller to super big :) Of course you can still use the method of changing the thumb size setting in the TVIEW.INI file. Of course selecting from a menu option is much EZr. NOTE: ***** If you pick 100x100 and have 1000 files in the Files List Window, then the temp file size needed to hold the thumbs would be about 4MB compared to 2MB for the same 1000 files in a 52x52 thumb size. This isn't very big, BUT if you are dealing with Files Lists of 10,000 or 30,000 files then you can see that the size of the temp file could get quite large, especially with the larger thumb size!! Fixed little slideshow bug when animated GIFS were intermixed with stills. Then GIFS would appear too quickly almost appearing overlayed. It's now fixed. Made TurboView detect BAD GIF files that APPEAR to be animated but in reality they are stills. These bad gifs are produced by some buggy GIF creators. So, now it works with ALL GIF files proper or not! :) Added DB Add Tags and DB Delete Tags into the Files List Window. This way you can remove a bunch of files from the database quickly. You can also ADD a bunch of files to the database quickly too. When adding files in this manner all the fields in the tagged files' records will be blank except for the CATEGORY field. This field will be "ADDED". That way in later you could Search for it in the DataBase editor in case you wanted to see all the files you had recently added :) Added a SUPER-COOL Complete DataBase Editor, found in the Main Windows' File/Notes DataBase Functions. Here you can search for anything on anyfield and then edit the records. You can jump to ANY record number in the Database to look at the record and you can delete or UN-delete records too. Total control over the database. Check it out! Added ability in the Files List Window to be able to take tagged files and ADD or DELETE them from the Notes DataBase. Added some niceties: 1. When you click on File Save As, the default PATH and FILENAME of the current file you are working on are AUTOMATICALLY displayed, so LESS WORK is involved in navigating to the proper folder & typing in the proper filename :) 2. When you are exporting files a status bar is now shown and it tells you when the saving is DONE and gives you a sense that something just got completed :) 3. If you select a file that is ALREADY there, then a WARNING message pops up saying you are about to overwrite the file! Of course, I added this check AFTER I overwrote a file I didn't want to :) 4. When you press the SPACE-BAR while a large preview window is the active window, you will see a check-mark appear and disappear in the title bar of the preview window. You can open up a large preview window by double clicking on a file in the file list window. This way you can tell if the image is tagged or not. SPECIAL NOTE: All the windows are syncronized. That means even if you have the same file opened in more than one preview window they will ALL changed to reflect if they are tagged or not. 04/06/99 Version 1.8.8fake DataBase: The keywords & notes fields are easier to work with in the record editor. Click on "DB EDIT" in the file list window. It's a mini text editor now instead of a single line of text. You can use the ENTER/RETURN key inside the field tooo! EXPORT/IMPORT: Since you can have RETURNS inside the keywords field and notes field, there needed to be a way to make the comma delimited text file still work. So, now any CR found in any field is translated to a hard space. And when importing back in, any hard space is translated to a CR in the field. Fixed slide show so that if you have a long delay, Turboview /ini:tview2.ini This would make TV think TVIEW2.INI is the INI file to use instead of the default which is TVIEW.INI :) That way you can set different TV settings and then later use the alternate INI if you wish :) There is now an option in the OPTIONS menu to allow for playing WAV files of the SAME name as the current file. So for example: If you are displaying a file called "DEBBIE001.JPG" and a file called "DEBBIE001.WAV" exists, then that sound file will be played too! :) In essence this could make TurboView a teaching aid with pictures & sound files that go together. Since sound files can be of varying length, in slide show mode, the sound files may not completely get played before the next picture comes up and a new sound file needs playing. Especially if the delay time is set real small for the slide show. So, there is a NEW slide show option called "Play Complete WAV File". This means that even though a small delay is selected, the next picture WONT LOAD UNTIL the current sound file is completely played!!! :) Added ability in the DataBase editor to DELETE the current record instead of you having to put blanks in all the fields. Just a little quick short cut to getting rid of info for a file. See the "DELETE RECORD" button in the DataBase editing Window. Added the ability to have your FAVORITE EDITORS be loaded to edit your files when you click on the EDIT/Edit File menu option. Sort of makes it look like TurboView has a built in editor. Since your favorite editor may not support ALL of the file types that TV does, we allow you to have up to 5 editors defined. Then you assign an editor to each file type :) That way you can have Paint Brush edit your BMP files and Photo Deluxe edit your JPG and GIF files and SoundRecorder edit your WAV files and so on. You get the idea. Anyway it's coooooool and EZ to setup. Just click in the EDIT menu and you will see what to do. ******** NOT ONLY THAT *******, but when you run TurboView and it doesn't find any entries for the 5 editors, it AUTOMATICALLY FILLS it in with common paint programs that it finds on your hard drives so that you can at least edit .BMP, .GIF, .JPG files right off the bat without having to do anything special!!!!!!! Not only can you have 5 different editors defined, you can also MANUALY pick which defined editor to use when you click to edit a file :) ************* P L E A S E DONT use old style editing programs that do not understand LONG filenames. If you do, then if the file you select to edit happens to be of LONG filename type, then the picture won't load into the editor and you will be dissappointed :) Not only does this mean the FILENAME, but ALSO THE FOLDER NAME(directory) must follow the 8 letter old format limit. If you are trying to edit longfilenamed files, go into the files list window and rename the files to something smaller if you can, or use a more up-to-date editor that supports long filenames! ************* PLEASE NOTE: This feature is available for PRO Versions of TurboView, otherwise you only get to use the feature 3 times. Then you have to re-run TurboView to get 3 more shots at it :) 04/01/99 Version 1.8.8fake Bugs Fixed Fixed a couple of dumb mistake introduced in the 1.88 fake version. Improvement: Since the notes are now kept in a database instead of individual .note files TV can load all of the files in your system that has a database entry REAL FAST. So, instead of scanning all of your drives loooooooking for files that end in ".NOTE", all TV does now is look in the database file. Much more efficient!!!! Try it and you will see. Select the "ONLY load files from NOTES DataBase" option and then select to try "All Local Hard Drives" and see how fast it is now! And try it with the older version and see how SLOW it WAS :) Added Feature: The COMPACT/FIX DataBase function now, handles resolving files that don't exist. It then scans all your hard drives for the possiblity that you may have moved the files without using TurboView to do it. If it finds a file that matches on the name then it asks if you would like to RE-LINK the found file that is now is a different folder with the file that is in the DataBase. That way you can move/copy files around without TurboView and not be too worried about it, ALTHOUGH it is HIGHLY suggested that you use TurboView to do it if you have NOTES for those files and you want the NOTES to stay with those files you are about to move/copy. :) You can now enter Margins in the print options with decimal accuracy. Before you could only enter whole inches :) Changed the way the DataBase works. Instead of makeing a bunch of .NOTE files, all the data is now kept in a single database file area. That way you can put notes for files that are on CD-ROMS :) There is now an Export/Import feature for the notes database too! Great for communicating the data with other programs. In case the indexfile gets goofy and you want to clean-up / fix the database, there is a Compact/Fix option for the notes database. I have also added a bunch more fields that you can access in the notes database as well. You can access these EXTRA fields by clicking on the "DB EDIT" button in the Files List Window. So for example: You can fill out the 6 fields for each record, Category, SubCat1, SubCat2, Number1, Number2, Keywords & Notes. You can also pick WHICH field is actually used in the DB FIELD column of data! :) That way you can sort by CATEGORY, and then later on you could sort by Number1 and then later on sort by NOTES. And for MASSIVE settings at a time, you can TAG a bunch of files and then DB EDIT the record of a file who's data you would like to propogate and then click on the RED CHECK mark next to the field that you would like to have duplicated thru-out all of the tagged files. For example: You could have "BABES" as the "CATEGORY" for IMAGE001.JPG and lets say you wanted the entire folder to have "BABES" as the category. Just load all the files in the folder into the files list window. Then tag all the files. Then go into the DB EDIT Window for IMAGE001.JPG and then click on the red check mark next to the CATEGORY field. BOOOOOM! All files tagged will now have the SAME value for the CATEGORY field!!!! 2EZ, Tooo Easy ! :) Added feature to the OPEN file dialog box. Instead of having a bunch of file types and the TOP one being "All Files" it's now different. Since I've ability for sound files and movie files, there are now 3 basic choices at the top of the list 1. All Files, 2. All Sound Files, 3. All Movie Files, then the rest of the file types follow. This makes it very EZ to filter out the files you want quickly :) 03/24/99 Version 1.8.8fake When you look at LARGE B&W grainy pictures in a thumbnail type of view that is fairly small, the image would sometimes look horrible. Sometimes almost all black with a few specks of white. Color images did a little better. I NOW USE a smoothing algorythm that makes the images look much better when sized way down from the original size. That means these images will look better in the OPEN DIALOG BOX and in the FileList Window little preview area and also in the thumbs created for the FileList Window thumb nail view. When you pick MULTiple files in the open dialog box, it will NOW SHOW you the last file you just picked :) Much, much, nicer! Also, if it is a sound file it will PLAY the last sound file selected. If you are using the CTRL key to hilite several files and you decide the to click a file again to UN-hilite it, then the sound/picture file that gets shown will be the FIRST HILITED file in the list . Keep in mind once you have selected around 15 files or so, then it reverts back to the old way of displaying an message saying MULTI-selected files can't display. Added AVI Movie file playing Added MID,MIDI sound file playing Added the ability to play WAV files and search for them etc, just like you would image files!! NEATO! 03/20/99 Version 1.8.8fake Resource LEAK fix: If you scanned thru a bunch of ClipArt files (WMF,EMF) then your Windows resources would go WAY WAY down. Sometimes enough to crash your system. It's a bug in the way Windows reads those files. I figured out the format of them and read them myself. NOW NO MORE MEMORY PROBLEMS :) Gee, I wonder why :) Minor Improvement: Better PNG support. They are faster for scrolling around large PNG files and they look better color wise. Also there is a new menu option under, OPTIONS/IMAGE TYPES CONFIGURATION/PNG BLENDING OFF, By default this is selected. And as such, no color blending takes place so you can see the actual image. If you UN-check it, then IF the image has blending, it will take place and it's possible that certain highly blended areas of the image may appear faint or maybe not at all :) this is a FEATURE of PNG, NOT a problem! Better NOTES editing. If you widen the FileList Window, then the NOTEs input field will grow as well:) If you had your screen resolution set to 1024 or higher then the thumbs in the thumbnail view would start looking pretty small because They were designed to look a good size on a 800x600 screen. I NOW TAKE INTO ACCOUNT your screen resolution and adjust the thumbs so that they STILL LOOK the nice size!! :) The temp file for the thumbnails that get built while viewing the file list as thumbnails(icons) now takes up much less space. It's about 4 times smaller. So, if you have 30,000 pictures and have looked at all of them in the thumbnail mode, then you would only use up 66MB of temp space. Of course this gets deleted when you quit the program. Sped up the thumbnail creation in the files list window for gif,pic,pcx, and tga files. It's about twice as fast now. The jpg,bmp,ico,wmf files are still the same speed. Thumbnails are now created in the background while you are in the File List Window and you are looking at the file list in THUMBnail View mode, otherwise no time is wasted in the background building the thumbs. Also, if you are paging down the thumbs the background thumb making is smart enough so that it makes sure that the NEXT PAGE of thumbs will be what it will work on immediately so that when you DO page down, the thumbs for the next page should already be built :) Once ALL thumbs are built you get a nice little voice message confirmation! Bug Fix: Minor: When doing a screen snap shot, the color depth used was that of the LAST IMAGE you had viewed :( So, if you had JUST finished looking at a GIF file (256 colors) then the screen snap shot would also be in 256 color. This would make it NOT QUITE look like the actual screen. Close, but no cigar. It's now fixed so that the snap shot takes on the color depth of your screen. So, if your screen mode is set to 256 colors then so will the snap shot image file. If your screen mode is set to 24bit color <16M colors>, so then will your snap shot image file :) Thanks to Daniel Schultz for pointing this out!! When moveing files in the file list window, if the destination contained a file by the same name, you were asked if you wanted to overwrite the file. If you click "YES", then the file would be deleted and then the file could be moved. Then BUG was that if the destination file was READ/ONLY then it couldn't be deleted, thus you couldn' move the file. This is now fixed. So now any files in the destination folder that need to be deleted first to allow the move to take place are now set so they are NOT READ ONLY. Then the move takes place :) GOTTCHA, the only gotcha is that if the file you are moving can't fit on the destination AFTER the delete, you are kind of out of luck :( Cosmetic Change: FINALLY!!!! The File List Window text is now of normal font. It used to display in BOLD and you couldn't see as much of the DATE or FILESIZE etc because the BOLD TEXT is wider than normal text. It was a bug in DELPHI :( All menu items now have a status bar help line that appears on the bottom of the program window. It's more user friendly in that it tells you better what will happen if you click on the option! As you resize a Preview window while it's in STRETCHABLE mode, the ASPECT WILL NOW BE KEPT PROPER, it used to not, which meant the picture could end up looking real thin or real thick :) Any open preview windows that you made while in the File List Window will now STAY OPEN even after you close the File List Window. When sorting files in the file list, the currently hi-lited file more than likely will dissappear because the spot in the list that is shown did not change. SO, if items 20 thru 30 were displayed, then after the sort it would unlikely that the item that was hi-lited would still be within the 20 -30 items, especially on large file list. IT IS NOW CHANGED SO THAT WHATEVER FILE WAS HI-LITED will STILL BE DISPLAYED even after the sort. SO the spot in the list that is displayed is CHANGED so that the file you had hilited can be displayed. Better Feel, I think! :) Changed: Changed some of the menu options around so they are grouped better. Feature Added: Maximum preview windows used to be 10, it's now set to 16 :) Added ability to TAG from within the preview windows. So if you press the SPACE-BAR inside any preview window, then that will become tagged in the file list window! Since I changed the preview windows so that they no longer always stay on top, I now provide a method of bringing back a preview window once it has been hidden from view by other apps. There is now a Preview Windows MENU item. Just click on it and select which preview window you want to pop back up and bring into view :) ****** N O T E ****** The following hot-keys CTRL-F9, CTRL-F10, CTRL-F11, CTRL-F12 are GLOBAL, which means that no matter what TurboView window you are in, these keys will work. If there are no preview windows opened, then you will hear a beep when you try to do one of those hot-keys AS MENTIONED ABOVE, but there is now a HOT-KEY to do the same thing. CTRL-F9 will rotate thru the previews sort of like ALT-TAB rotates thru your current apps. Added CTRL-F10, shrinks(minimizes) all the preview windows on the screen. Added CTRL-F11, this brings up ALL the preview windows where they last were on the screen. Added CTRL-F12, this brings up ALL the preview windows and TILES THEM on the screen so you can see them ALL AT ONCE :) Added basic .PNG suppport. Simple .png graphic file are now supported. If you can't view some .png files then please send them to me and I will see what I can do about viewing them. So far they are all viewable! You can now DRAG a folder onto the TurboView shortcut placed on your desktop. Of course you need to have made the shortcut first :) Added an "Every Drive In System" option in addition to the current, "All Local Hard Drives" when doing drive loading or ORPHAN Resolving. So, if you had some networked drives this option would include those too. Too Cool :) Move,Copy,Delete,Rename,Convert options in the File List Window all now have the ability to STOP/CANCEL the operation in mid stream. So if you decide against the operation or you see it's going to tgake tooooo long, you can press the STOP button and whatever files had NOT been processed will be skipped and you will be brought out of the function. Added STOP button for the ORPHAN .NOTES removal. Even though it's fast, I thought it would be nice to be consistent. Added cool feature if you like using the .NOTEs features. If you just wanted to load all image files that you put .NOTES into, then you can click on the "ONLY Load files with .NOTEs". Then when you do a Load Drive(s) operation, it filters out only files with .NOTES in them. Please Keep in mind that the "Allowable extensions" filter is still honored. So, if you wind up with less .NOTE files than you expected, check the "Allowable extensions function and make sure you have the appropriate ones checked. NOTE:******** This feature takes about TWICE as long to load the files into the file list while searching the hard drive. BUT, it's very handy and once all the files are loaded into the files list, then everything else operates at normal speeds. Added drive(s) selection for the resolving of ORPHAN .NOTE files. So if you knew that all your .NOTEs files were going to be on Drive E: then, you could just pick Drive E: instead of every drive being scanned. ORPHAN .NOTE files are .NOTE files that Turboview creates so that you can keep notes about each image you have. The name of the .NOTE file is the same as the image file so they can be matched up easily. For example: If you have a file called "PAMELA-1.JPG" and if you put notes for that file, they would go into a file called "PAMELA-1.JPG.NOTE" The viewing/editing of the notes are done in the File List Menu. Turboview is real nice in that if you move copy delete an image that also has a .NOTE file that goes along with it, Turboview will do the same action on it too :) This keeps the 2 files together when moving & copying. BUT IF YOU use another program to move "PAMELA-1.JPG" then of course the .NOTE file is not going to get moved. Then you end up with an ORPHAN .MOTE file. And if you went to see the notes for PAMELA-1.JPG you wouldn't see any becuase the .NOTE file did not get copied as well into the new folder. SO, by using the RESOLVE ORPHAN .NOTE files, it looks for all .NOTE files sitting out there that do not have a picture file that goes with it. Then after all the un-associated .NOTE files have been found, we see if we can FIND files with the appropriate name and ask the user if they want to move the .NOTE file to the found image's folder. That way, the .NOTE file can once again be placed into the "PAMELA-1.JPG" images' folder. Of course you may have MORE than one "PAMELA-1.JPG" file in your system, in that case be careful to move the .NOTE file into the correct folder :) If there are orphan .NOTE files that you choose NOT TO MOVE, then after the process is completed, it will ask if you want to DELETE those orphan files since they are of no value when not associated with a real file. IE: A .NOTE file all by itself does you no good. 03/02/99 Version 1.8.7 Update the WEB page of Features to reflect the new cool stuff! Fixed the preview windows so that if you have some previews open and close the file list window, it still work properly :) Better DRAG operations. If you ever used the drag feature to drag file TO the turboview main window or to the file list window, you probably liked it. If you ever dragged files FROM the main display window or the file list window TO File Manage or desktop or somewhere else that accepts dragged files then you probably liked it to:) BTW, email programs accept dragged files and automatically put them in the attachments list:) Well here is the annoyance. When dragging FROM TV, you would see a "+" indicating that you were dragging. The "+" was visible even though you hadn't moved the mouse all the way off of tv. That meant that if you left go of the mouse button that the file would act like it was draggged ONTO tv. It would cause a reload of the file you were dragging. NO big deal, but if it was a LARGE file, the re- loading could take a couple of seconds. This was an annoyance if you were dragging from tv and then decided you didin't want to drag at all and let go of the mouse button. It's now been changed so that WHILE you are dragging you WONT get the "+" while the mouse is ontop of tv. Instead you will get a NOT symbol. It looks like a circle with a slash thru it. This indicates that you cant do the drop there. This means if you did let go of the mouse button tv won't think you were dragging a file to tv :) Just a little cleaner in operation. Of course the BIG PREVIEW window that you can create in the file list window can drag TO tv. If you think about it for a minute you will see why that is a good thing :) Added ability to DRAG FROM the big previews created in the files list window. This is cool because you can open up several preview windows while going thru a kinds of folders and when you are done, you can then drag FROM the preview windows into Explorer File Manager to copy files of your choice! Fixed a encie weencie little error where if you used the "+" to load all files in the open file dialog box, it would then put that into the RECENT FILES list. Well, the "+" is not really a single file, So I changed it so that if you used the "+" it won't get added to the recent file list :) Fixed small annoyance. If you double click to open up a bigger preview window in the file list window, then if the file was VERY TINY, it would end up getting stretched wide but not tall to fit in the window. Now it's fixed, if the image is SMALLER than the size allowed by the window not only will it be resized width wise, but HEIGHT WISE TOO! :) Added several cool looking CURSORS in the file list window. Check them out by placing the cursor over the check mark (TAG) box :) Also place the cursor over the small preview area and also inside the bigger preview window :) And last you can take your cursor and move it into the NOTES column and see what happens. Made it so that when displaying clipart files (emf,wmf) that the background color is sort of like gray but a little towards pink. That way you can tell what part of the image is ACTUALLY GRAY instead of just the background showing thru!! That way you know what will appear when you use it and print it. I do this because clipart files are transparent(background color shows thru). Made the Load Drive(s) function and the DRAGGING of folders a little friendlier. Lets suppose you start to do a Load Drive on a big drive and it would take 5 minutes to do it's thing and you don't want to waste 5 minutes. You can now press the "STOP" button. Also, If you drag in a folder that has tons of subfolders that may take quite a few seconds, you can now press the "STOP" button. :) Changed all references to .USER to .NOTE. I thought it made more sense. Made it so that you can SPECIFY what file extensions you want to be the default for when you drag folders in and do Load Drive functions. This way if you were only interested in the .ICO files you could go into the File/Setup/SelectFormatsToLoad menu option and click on the ones that you WANT to load when dragging or drive loading. The default of course is every iamge format. It's especially nice for drive loading. Lets' say you wanted to load every EMF/WMF file (clipart) from your system. You could specify these types and then go into the LoadDrive from the main file menu. Then only the clipart files would get loaded :) Made it so that when you click on Load File and get the open file dialog box, and then use the "+", it works smarter now :) It now HONORS the file type you have selected. So if you had clicked on JPG, and used the "+", then ONLY ALL the JPG files will get loaded. Before it would load all image files no matter what file type you had selected!! .USER ORPHAN deleter! For those of you who like and make use of the USER field which in turn creates a filename.USER file for each file , you will LOVE this feature. From the main file menu, there is now an ORPHAN USER finder. It will seach all your hard drives for .USER files that have no associated file with it. It then displays the ORPHANed .USER file and asks if you would like to delete it. You can then pick YES, NO, YEStoALL, NOtoALL, The reason I don't just DELETE WITHOUT ASKING is because some of you may have programs that create files with that extension and if I came across it and blindly deleted it, you wouldn't be too terribly happy about it :) I would say even if you DID say deleteALL, you would be 99.99% safe because, if I find the .USER file is an orphan, I also check to make sure that the file has at least 2 periods in it. For example: BABE-001.JPG.USER, you will see 2 periods in it. This is MY file and you can delete it. If it found "BABE-0001.USER", then you can see that it only has "1" period in it. This file will NOT get asked to be deleted because it OBVIOUSLY wasn't created by be. So, the only way you could ACCIDENTALLY delete a .USER file that didn't belong to me would be for the .USER file to have 2 periods in it. :) Hey, if you thought it was nice of me to allow you to copy delete & move the .USER files associated with the image you are copying/deleteing/moving, then you will like this feature. When you DRAG FROM turboview, it will AUTO- matically detect the .USER file and ask if you want it DRAGGED too :) A little more built in intelligence for the tagged items. If you forget that the tagged items are performed on instead of the HI-LITED files, whenever you choose an option that acts on tagged files, it first makes sure that there are no tagged files that are not hi-lited as well. If this condition occurs, a message comes up that tells you that you are about to do something to a bunch of tagged files and it appears that you have some file hi-lited as well. And that if you didn't want the operation to occur to the tagged files, that you should press cancel. :) This is for idiot prooooofing :) The small preview in the files list window is now a little bigger :) The buttons have been resized and moved to a better place. If you drag in folders or load entire drives worth of images, this process could take some time. This time has now been cut in HALF! I can now load my C,D,E,F,G,H drives that contain 27000 files in about 2 minutes. Then after all files have been loaded into the files list, the INFO SCANNING is now about twice as fast, EXCEPT for GIF files. This scanning of the GIF files is SLOWER now because we now load the gif file to determine if it's an animated GIF or not. You can now sort on the MOVIE column. This puts all ANIMATED gif files together :) I thought it would be cool to scan your hard drive for animated gifs. Otherwise you were left looking at each one by yourself to see if it was animated or not. So now after browsing the Internet, you can go into your browsers cache area and load all the files into TurboView and then sort by MOVIE and Wala, all the movie files are put together! :) Made large list handling EZr. It used to be that if you removed/renamed/ deleted, flipped taggs etc... It would wait until all files were info scanned because the TOTAL TAGGED SIZE field in the status bar would possibly need to be updated. Well, in large lists like 10,000 or more this can be very cumbersome, so now the ONLY THING that waits for the data is the sorting by a column that needs info scanned data. Tag-Selected and UN-Tag-Selected and Flip-Tags each had to WAIT until ALL the files in the list are info scanned. If you had a large list this could force you to wait quite a bit :( It now allows you to do all those options WITHOUT the wait. The only DIS-advantage is that the TAGGED SIZE status at the bottom of the screen will show "(Please Wait)" until all the files are finally done being info scanned. Then that status bar will get updated to show the TRUE TOTAL TAGGED SIZE! :) So now, you can load all the files in your system, and then tag a whole bunch of files and then COPY them or whatever (all without having to wait until they are info scanned) WHEW! What a time saver this is. Should've done it this way to start with:) Fixed slideshow problem: If you had a large file list and the files were NOT all info scanned yet, then the slide show would WAIT until all files were info scanned BEFORE the slideshow would actually start:( Now there is NO wait it starts pronto! Make it so that only 3 folders & files are remembered in the NON-REGISTERED version. And that 10 are remembered once you register! Added a check when CONVERTing/COPYing/MOVEing/RENAMEing/REMOVEing/DELETEing files. If it appears that you have at least one file TAGGED AND at least 2 files HIGH-LIGHTED, then a warning message comes up indicating ONLY TAGGED files gets the operation done to it. This is so that if you tagged 5 files for deletion and then HIGHLIGHTED 20 OTHER files for deletion and then clicked on the DELETE button. This would save your the GRIEF of deleting 5 files you didn't really want to delete :) Finalized some of the settings so that there are distinctive differences between NON-REG and REGISTERED and PRO versions! Look at BOTTOM of this README.TXT for the descriptive differences between the versions. Made the icons in the "Load Drives" menu look better :) Made Caption colors CORRECT! Instead of PURPLE! It ALSO NOW works with captions that have gradual color changes from left to right. It looks much more professional :) Added new slide show option: You can now specify how many times to LOOP thru the slide show, if you did not want continuous:) Made Paranoia remove the entries in the COPY & MOVE list in the files list window:) Don't want people KNOWING where you are moving stuff too!!! New feature For Files List Window: All of the COPY & MOVE folders that you pick are saved so that the next time you run TurboView, they will appear in the list to select from:) New Feature for Files List Window: The preview window is no longer modal. IE: You can do other things in the file list window WHILE the preview window is up. AND In addition to that you can open up to 10 PreView Windows :) AND As if that weren't enough, if you DOUBLE-CLICK inside the window you can toggle between Standard view mode and SCROLLABLE view mode. Smoother file list loading so when you process a folder with lots of sub folders, the Please Wait message won't keep flashing! Made the Load Drive list prettier with icons! Since you need to have all the files INFO SCANNED B4 flipping tags or tagging/un-tagging highlighted files, if you click on those buttons B4 the stuff is all scanned in, it could take some time to complete. So, now I added the ablility to CANCEL out of the tag operation so that you can go on doing other things first in case you want to.:) For example, it could take 10 minutes to info scan 10,000 files. So instead of FORCING you to wait 10 minutes, you can now go on doing other sutff like viewing:) Added a Files ADD button in the Files List Window so that you can add files in that window without having to DRAG files in from file manager:) Made loading the file list a little quicker and made the INFO SCANNING much faster and takes less CPU away from your apps. Additional .USER niceties :) 1. When you rename a single file in the file list window by clicking on the filename, it renames the .USER file too! 2. When you copy/rename/move/delete from the files list window, the associated .USER file is now copied/moved/deleted/renamed too :) At least it asks if you want it to. You can now sort on TAGs before the entire list is done scanning for file info without a delay. If you choose to sort on a column other than folder or filename AND the file list is NOT done info scanning, then it would display a message saying please wait for the rest of the files to be scanned. Well, it's NOT DIFFERENT, I NOW Allow you to press CANCEL to cancel the sort operation so you won't have to sit and wait if the file list is huge! Made it so that any files that were selected BEFORE sorting, remain selected after the sort. Before it would just keep the same lines selected. And since after sorting different filename coule appear on the lines, the selected files could have become different:) This is now fixed! Added ability to AUTOmatically remove the temp files created by Snap Shotting and Scanning :) It used to be that if more than 3000 files were in the files list, the loading of the list would get MUCH SLOWER. NOW, there is no lag. It's very quick in loading, even up to the 26076 files I've tested it with so far :) It can handle an UNLIMITED (only by disk space) amount of files in the list, so if you had 200,000 files, it would still work! Changed how the space bar works. It USED to be used to switch to different view styles, big, small, split. It's NOW used to TAG files. Use the "V" key now to change between different views. While you are in the files list windows, you can also press SPACE to tag the file that is currently selected. Also, while in ICON view mode you can press the SPACE to tag the current file. Of course you can STILL use the mouse and click in the box to tag and untag. Added new print TAG option in the Print Options window. If you check it, the when you print it will print ALL TAGGED files :), otherwise it will print the CURRRENTLY displayed file. Added a New Snap Shot Screen (Hidden) option. This allows you to take a snapshot of the screen WITHOUT having TurboView on the screen :) Added a Screen Snap Shot & Screen Snap Shot From ClipBoard options in the file menu. The Screen Snap Shot takes a picture of the screen and makes it a file and the Screen Snap Shot From ClipBoard takes what ever you CUT/COPY into the clipboard and makes it a file. Very Very Handy :) Added FULL DRIVE LOAD: Just like you can DRAG in folders and have all subfolders loaded so that 100s and 1000s of pics can be loaded at once, Windows in their INFINITE WISDOM :) do NOT allow you to drag a DRIVE :( So, I added in the File Menu a Drive LOAD option. You can select any drive or you can even select ALL DRIVES :) If you do this, be prepared to see a lot of files :) Yeah! Added GIF WRITE capability :) WHEW!!! Finally, man that was a little trick. Actually it only took 1 full day. Now here are the cooool features of the GIF-write tab. 1. If the GIF file you are currently looking at had comments in it, then the comments checkbox is checked for you AUTOmatically. You can of course OVERride this. If you CHECK it, then whatever is in the comments will be saved with the new file you are creating. 2. Comments button: If you click on this then you can edit the comments that you can add to the GIF file. It also AUTOmatically checks the comments checkbox if there are any comments in the comments box. 3. Since GIF files can have a TRANSPARENT color assigned, if the current gif file HAS a transparent color assigned then the transparent checkbox will be checked AUTOmatically for you. You can of course OVERride this so that no transparent color will be assigned in the new file you make. 4. There is a Pick Transparent button, so that you can select a color from the color palette of the current GIF file to be assigned to the trans- parent color. In this color selection window, you can also indicate that you do NOT want a color to be selected. 5. If the current gif file is Interlaced then the interlaced checkbox will be AUTOmatically checked for you. You can of course OVERride this. Saving a gif file as INTERLACED is not really useful, EXCEPT for large GIF files that you may want ot use on a WWW Home Page. That way the file can be displayed quicker to the end user. It starts off looking coarse and then better and better until the whole file is loaded from the WWW page. It's not useful for just regular pics you want to keep on your hard drive. BUG FIX: You would NOT have noticed, but if you loaded several .ICO files and if any of them were TRANSPARENT, then it would get goofy looking on the screen. It now displays properly Added a First-File button and a Last-File button in main TurboView window Added Search capabilities in File List Window. You can search filenames by first matching or anywhere within filename matching or also by the USER field. You can also search by DUPlicates based on Filename, filesize, filedate Added some quick HOT-KEYS: 1. F12 Starts slide show immediately 2. F11 Replays GIF Animation (Like clicking on Camera icon) Added PARANOIA option: This removes ALL HISTORY of what FOLDERS you have visited and what FILES you may have viewed from the RECENT list in TurboView :) In case you don't want SOMEBODY to KNOW for WHATEVER REASON :) Added new feature so you can SCAN in photos. It's off the main FILE menu. Since the scanned files are stored as TEMP files in your TEMP folder, you need to delete these files later if you don't want them. But the best thing is to go into the File List Window and then MOVE them to a folder of your choice. It's up to you. Added ability to type in a PATH(folder) in the Load(open) file dialog box instead of having to use your mouse to click on a new folder and navigate down thru a list of folders to pick. IE: Sometimes it's faster to type than to mouse around. Added new feature in Load(open) dialog box. You can now type in "+" without the quote marks of course. If you type a PLUS sign and press return then ALL files that are PICTURE types will get added to the list. This is a faster way to select every viewable file. Added slide show option: Use Tagged files only! Added "Actual Colors" in the properties info window. This tells you how many colors were REALLY used in the image. Added OPTION menu: Always Include SUB-Folders when dragging in Folders You can now drag FROM the main display window to your desktop, windows explorer or any other programs that accepts files to be drug onto it :) Added PREVIEW mode, when saving to a JPG file. This is so you can check the quality of the picture and the filesize BEFORE actually saving it :) Added a "TAG" checkmark on the tool bar so you can TAG/UN-TAG files for later use. You can do a lot of things with the TAGged files. You can delete move, copy, convert etc.... Added better color quantization. When saving a 24bit file out to a 256 color file, the color reduction/dithering is MUCH MUCH better and faster now :) The other color reduction options are still slow & bad. Still working on it. Added a File List Window: (Use the main FILE menu to get there) 0. Pressing ESCape allows quit EXIT from the file list window 1. You can view all files in the file list with this window. 2. You can view them in THUMBNAIL fashion too :) 3. You can tag files by clicking in the little box that appears next to each file. Or you can HIGHLIGHT several files at once then click on the TAG highlighted files. You can of course UN-tag highlighted files as well. You can also take all TAGged files and make them untagged and all untagged files tagged by pressing the "Flip Tags" button. And finally you can press "No Tags" so that all checkmarks are gone. 4. You can do things with tagged files. You can: 1. Delete them from your drive 2. Remove them from the file list (not the drive) 3. Move them to a different folder 4. Copy them to a different folder 5. Convert them to a different graphic file format 6. Rename using one of 5 different methods 4b You can change the USER field by clicking in the USER column for a file 4c You can RENAME a file by clicking in the filename column for the file 5. The file list window has a Preview area 6. You can print from the file list window 7. You can see on the status bar how many files you have tagged and what total file file size you have tagged too. 8. You can drag files FROM or TO the file list window :) 9. If you press return on a file or double click a file a bigger preview of the file comes up! A. While in the preview,you can press UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT to go to the next file. Then press ESCape to get back to the file list window. 10. You can SORT on any column of Filename, size, date, number of colors, folder, file type, resolution, etc... If you click on the SAME column header again it will sort in reverse order. 11. There is a USER field that you can input data into so that you can SORT by USER column. This will force a particular ORDER in the list. This is usefull for a slide show ordering technique. 12. It has a TALL MODE so that you see MORE files, but you don't see the panel with all the buttons on it. But, you don't need to anyway because every button has a cooresponding menu option you can pick. 13. All options can be done from the MENU options. 14. Just like in the Main TurboView window, there is a CAMERA ICON that you can press to RE-START a GIF Animation again. 15. You can SEARCH file list by lots of cool options. You can find any file that matches ANY part of any other file. You can also search by DUPs :) 16. Quick search. If you type fairly quickly, then as you type in a filename you will see the highighted file change to the filename that you typed. So, if you wanted to be placed at the file called JENNY-10.JPG, you could type in JEN provided there are no other files starting with J E N. Otherwise you could type in JENNY-10 and it will point you to your file. If you are slow in typing (more than one second between letters) then the search starts over from scratch! Special thanks for Mike Bianco for slide show feature suggestions and for other items too:) Fixed some minor bugs: 1. Printing sometimes produced blank pages or COURSE(bad) looking images on the paper. Now it looks GREAT! 2. Now works when your system is in LARGE FONT mode :) and NT 01/01/99 Version 1.8.6 Fixed a bunch of minor bugs: 1. If you told TurboView to control the .ICO file type then later uncheck the .ICO in the TurboView setup. Then when you look at .ICO files in File manage or your desktop, they would have a standard PAPER like icon to them instead of showing you the ACTUAL PICTURE that is INSIDE the ICON file:) 2. Windows NT. It would just comeup and the window would get all painted and you could only view in FULL SCREEN mode:) 3. Windows NT, if you told checked some file types in the TurboView setup and then later FORGOT that you checked them. You wouldn't know that they were checked because file manager would FAIL to show you the TURBOVIEW ICON :) 4. Windows NT. If you tried to use the WALLPAPER feature, you would find that it didn't really work. The only thing it did do was to copy the picture file into the Windows folder so that you could later go into display properties and then pick the file :) 5. If you HAD TurboView in a MAXIMIZED window state and you also have "Auto RESIZE Window On Load" checked then it would make the TurboView window fit tight around the Image. Well this actually is the WRONG thing to do if you have the Window MAXIMIZED :) So now this is fixed! Thanks to Jerry! ALL OF THESE ISSUES have now been fixed!!! New "SAVE AS" feature. You can now SAVE the files back out as either BMP or JPG files. You can even create ICO (ICON) files. It also supports PCX, PIC & TGA formats. In the next version I will add SAVING for GIF files. Added a new QUANTIZE feature that allows you to reduce the number of colors in the image by a dithering process. More information is displayed in the properties box. MOUSE WHEEL SUPPORT!!! Scroll the mouse wheel UP or DOWN while viewing in the ACTUAL SIZE mode in the normal window or in FULL SCREEN mode and the picture should scroll up and down if the IMAGE is bigger than what can fit on the screen. Thanks goes out to Jerry! FASTER PREVIEW in the open file dialog box for JPG files. When browsing thru the displayed list of files in the OPEN routine JPG files that are very large are now displayed MUCH MUCH faster! About 4 to 8 times faster :) Made deletions a little EZr. You can now press the DELETE key when viewing a picture in order to delete it :) Added a new PARANOIA option. Click on it and the history of the RECENT files and the RECENT FOLDERS become blank! You figure out why this is neat :) When dragging/dropping files added option to not ask you every time you drag subfolders if you want to process the subfolders too. You can NOW drag folders ONTO the TurboView.EXE shortcut or actual filename in an File Explorer window. It used to be that only filenames could be dragged onto the TurboView.EXE icon. Fixed 99.9% of the times when "Something Wierd Happened" message would pop-up You can now type in a path while in the Open File dialog box. 12/10/98 Version 1.8.5 If you were trying to CLOSE/EXIT while an ANIMATED GIF was playing, then TurboView would continue to run until you clicked on the STOP button or pressed the ESCAPE key. It's now been changed to AUTO STOP the animation when you click to Exit. This saves you a few keystrokes or mouse clicks :) Fixed a little bug. If you used the SENDTO method of loading an ANIMATED GIF or doubled clicked on a ANIMATED GIF, then it would appear like the program never loads AND you couldn't load another copy of TURBOVIEW either:( The problem was that TurboView was PLAYING the animated GIF in the turboview window that hadn't come up yet :) So you never saw the animation and you couldn't stop it either!!! Well it's fixed now. If you double click on an ANIMATED GIF or use the SENDTO method for animated GIFs then TurboView will just load it and display it as it should :) There is now a REGISTERED version of the program. In the registered version you don't get the NAG screens :) Made the Caption Title smart. Instead of chopping off the last part of a long filename that can't be totally displayed in the caption bar, TurboView now uses the smart method. For example: instead of: "C:\Program Files\TurboView\Pictures\JPGS\Models\September\Julie119.JPG" The SMaRT mode would display "C:\Program Files\TurboView..ptember\Julie119.JPG" This way in a smaller amount of space you can still see where the file is starting from and you can still see the filename portion too :) Made going from LARGE pics to SMALL pics better. Also going from SMALL pics to LARGE pics :) If you were looking at the ACTUAL size view window with the scroll bars and the next image had no scroll bars the image would blank to BLACK and WAIT until the new image was loaded. This waiting period of course would depend on how big the next pic was. But sometimes it was just anoying to see a BLACK area instead of the previous picture! You probably would never realize this anoying fact unless you were doing a slide show with images that were different in size and in ACTUAL SIZE view mode. HOT-KEYS for GIF-ANIMATION and SLIDE-SHOW are added. F11 starts the GIF animation again. F12 starts the SLIDE SHOW again. This is faster than using mouse clicks :) If there are no files loaded in the list then pressing the CAMERA or SLIDSHOW would produce results that are not expected. I have now FIXED IT so that if you have NO files in the file list, then the SLIDESHOW and CAMERA buttons are disabled! Fixed a little BUG in the properties box. If the file was READ/ONLY then it would show a file size of "-1" :) That is now fixed and the real filesize is displayed! :) Removed "Keep True Format" and put in a more flexible "File Color Depth" option in the Options Menu. This has NO real value at the present time, but later when TurboView allows WRITING of files & converting file formats, you will come to appreciate this option. SO for now, just ignore it. Made it so that ANIMATED GIF files can be played in ALL viewing modes. IE: you can view it in the MakeFit view mode or FULL SCREEN etc... :) Fixed little bug in GIF89a text type files. (You would NEVER have seen this bug) :) It showed the wrong colors. Loading PCX files are now %18 faster! :) Loading TGA files are now %20 faster! :) Loading PIC files are now %23 faster! :) Loading GIF files are now %08 faster! :) Fixed a little anoyance in the FULL SCREEN mode. If you went to MAKE FIT mode for FULL SCREEN then if the images you loaded were tall enough to display all the way down to the bottom of the screen, then the bottom 4 lines were actually displayed BEFORE the top part of the picture :( This is now fixed, the image displays from the TOP DOWN so it appears cleaner looking :) Made loading of JPG images smoother too. Instead of blacking out the window while the image is loaded, the image is now loaded, then the window is repainted with the new image. Cleaner looking operation :) Was never really a problem unless you loaded a HUGE JPG file, like about 300K or larger. Then you really noticed what I am talking about! Made slide show a little smoother. Between images it was staying black a little too long. It was anoying. So now it's black for just the minimalist amount of time. Much nicer while in slide show! Only Show the RED STOP SIGN when it's appropriate. This makes it EZr for the user to KNOW when the pushing the STOP sign will do do something meaningful :) 12/01/98 Version 1.8.4 Made slide show work better in NON-FULL-SCREEN mode. Before, it would resize the window for each picture if you had AUTO-RESIZE ON LOAD option set. Well, NOW it's setup to NOT RESIZE EVER when in SLIDE SHOW MODE :) Made a few consitency changes in messages & hints & menu names :) Fixed a little bug in the PCX format. If the PCX file was small (less than 8K) then the picture would come up BLACK :) Added a COOOOOL Tool bar that is totally configurable. You can move the tool buttons around and place them where you want them :) Added a CAMERA button to START a GIF animation again! Added a STOP button to stop slide shows and GIF animations. Also added a STOP option in the CONTEXT menu pop up. Rearranged the buttons so that there are 2 tool bars. The top tool bar relates to file management. Forwards backwards, new lists etc... The second toolbar relates to things you can do AFTER you have picked you files. These options are NEVER DISABLED while the top tool bar IS DISABLED WHILE playing GIF animations and doing SLIDE SHOWS. Made it so that all the new file types that "I" add appear in the preview window when selecting files :) So now the PCX, GIF, PIC, TGA files will now all have a little preview window that works :) Even the ANIMATED GIFS will be previewed!!!! More things are saved in the INI file such as the slide show options etc... :) Added a SLIDE SHOW button :) A lot of people wanted this one. It's icon looks like a piece of film. Added "AutoSize of load" viewing option. This allows you to control the resizeing of the TurboView window upon each load of a picture. If you TURN it off, then the window doesn't resize each time. This also means that the picture may not be displayed as the TRUE size of the picture. This is because the autosize mode tries to display the picture in it's true size. If the image is TOO big then it's shrunken down to fit. Likewise if its tooooo small then it's enlarged a tiny bit, but for the most part the images are displayed in true size in the bottom window pane! I hear rumors that a lot of people wanted this option :) Added "Properties" to the file menu. IE: Not just in context menu anymore :) Added error checking to loading files. If there is an error in loading a file it now displays a little message saying "Error loading file!" and then returns control back to the program. This is much better than what it USED to do. It used to show an error message and then make the program appear like it was locked up :) Added option to ONLY show the FILENAME in the Title Bar of the program. This is because if the path was REAL LONG sometimes you couldn't see the WHOLE PATH & filename :( It's now an option you can turn on and off :) Added the ability to have the NEWER version of the program do the uninstall of the OLDER version, then reset the settings back. This makes the transfer to the NEWER version transparent(EZ). No more confusing messages like, You are trying to run a newer version or You are trying to run the SAME version but you had uninstalled it, etc... Added enhancement on the multiload function. If you load more than one copy of Turbo View, it now loads the next copy a little off from the 1st copy on the screen. That way you can see that ANOTHER copy was loaded. Before it just loaded RIGHT SMACK ontop of the current copy. Thus giving the illusion that another copy wasn't really loaded. But when you went to CLOSE the program out you would notice that there was yet ANOTHER copy underneath it :) Added .GIF file capability! FULL support for the GIF89a format including the text only mode. These include the nice animations that you see on Web sites. Also if a GIF file has a transluscent background then it will show up as TEAL. There is also an option to allow the user to view the hidden comments that are part of the GIF file. Note: NOT ALL GIF files have comments in them. If the option is set to "YES" then a notepad window will open up with the comm- ents in them! :) All files are now opened in a READ ONLY mode, so that you won't get read errors if another application happens to have the same file open. Probably would never happen, but what the heck! :) Fixed a memory leak bug. After about 425 PCX or PIC or TGA or GIF files were displayed, it would then crash out with a LOW ON SYSTEM RESOURCES message. This was a tricky one to find and even trickier to fix. I have now tested it and have let the slide show run thru about 7000 files without any problems. So I believe it's fixed :) 11/19/98 Version 1.8.3 Added TGA file type. 1,8,16,24 bit versions! IE: 256 color and True Color Added PCX file type 1,4,8,24 bit ability. Added PIC file type 1,4,8 bit file ability. Added ability to select "Keep True Format" option. If your screen mode is in Hi-Color or True-Color (better than 256 colors) then the keep true format doesn't affect you. If you are in 256 color mode or less, then the KEEP TRUE FORMAT changes things. IE: JPG files are loaded internally with less bits so that it will look decent on the screen. Same goes with the other file formats. Although the image will look descent, the INTERNAL representation is NOT as HIGH of QUALITY. PLAIN AND SIMPLE, IF YOU ARE IN 256 Colors mode for your WINDOWS SCREEN, then UNCHECK Keep True Format, this allows the image to be altered before display so it will look as good as possible. DO NOT SAVE THE FILE back out because you will have loss of quality in the picture. Added more information to the properties box. Added ability to set your Windows Screen mode to 256 color or 24 Bit True Color mode :). Fixed little anoyance. If you were viewing in SHRINK-TO-FIT mode and the image you load is pretty big, the bottom of the window(the status bar) would go too low for you to see. The WHOLE TURBO VIEW window is NOW all visible! :) Fixed printing problem. If you click on the PRINTER ICON, you will notice that it's possible that NOTHING gets printed or the WRONG picture gets printed! Fixed display wierdities when viewing in 256 color mode. The color scheme would get goofy looking and the pictures could look rather strange. It should now properly display the picture in the proper colors in all views of the picture including the print preview. As long as the Window you want to look good is the ACTIVE WINDOW, it should be displayed in the proper colors! :) Oh, BTW, why not be intelligent and switch your video mode into something a little better like TRUE COLOR all the time??? If you have a video driver PROBLEM, then I feel for you man! :) Fixed SLIDE-SHOW problem: If your didn't select FULL SCREEN mode, then you couldn't stop it from looping with the ESCAPE key. It was ignored :( That is now fixed, you may stop the slide show at any time by pressing ESCAPE! Minor fixes & speed improvments & better memory usage! Added ability to allow multiple copies or just a single view. You can also pick the option to have it ASK you each time. Sort of adds a nice touch if you are clicking thru a bunch of files in a folder. This way you won't have about 30 windows to close once you are done :) Better displaying of ICONS & EMF/WMF files. It now shows MetaFiles(ClipArt) with a gray background. That way you can tell if the image SPECIFICALLY uses white and black in the picture. Before with the white background, you couldn't tell if the clipart specifically painted a part of the screen in white. Now with the GRAY background you can see everything :) The about box is much better too! :) 11/05/98 Version 1.8.2 Fixed a little registry error for using TurboView as the default viewer for .ICO files. DON'T WORRY about if your older version goofed up the registry for .ICO files. Because this new version will detect it and automatically fix it, so it is correct! :) Made the FULL screen mode EZr to use, instead of just left click and right click controlling next/prev file in list, it's now handled as thus: Right Click brings up a context menu of things to do and ONLY if you right/left click in the RIGHT/LEFT HAND edges does it actually do next/prev file. Added context menu in full screen mode to do things like get picture properties and ESCape out of full screen mode, print, delete, undo-delete, etc... Added context menu in REGULAR screen mode to do things like get picture properties, delete, undo-delete, etc... Adjusted the stack size to something smaller (more memory efficient) Added WALL PAPER ability. Just Click on WALL-PAPER function and wham bam, the pic you are looking at becomes you Windows WALL PAPER! :) And it does this WITHOUT having to RE-BOOT! :) You can use any pic file format EXCEPT .ICO (icons) for Wall Paper! Made it so that the file type change effects your desktop and File Manager windows inmmediately without having to RE-BOOT to show the new icon! :) Added SLIDE-SHOW capabilities. Several options control the fun you will have with this feature :) IMPROVED the DRAG/DROP capability. You can now DRAG a FOLDER into the Turbo View window. And it will expand the folder and take ALL files in the folder AND ALL files in any subfolders that the folder may contain :) Be careful, with this type of DRAG/DROP because you may end up with a LOT MORE FILES in the file list in Turbo View than you really want :) Fixed Open file operation. It NOW remembers the LAST folder you picked a file from. Before it would keep using the same FOLDER and you had to keep manouvering around. Added Open file feature. If you type in *.* in the filename field, then click open, it will select ALL FILES in that folder! :) A little EZr than using the SHIFT click method of selecting all files in the list, especially if the list is particularly long! Added a FILE# jump ability. If you have more than 1 file in the list you may wish to JUMP to a specific file in the list without having to wade thru viewing all of the files in between. Now you can enter a number in the file jump edit box and then click on the JUMP button :) 11/04/98 Version 1.8 Fixed a few typos. Made the trashcan look full and empty depending on if you had deleted a file not not. COOL :) Made the default FOLDER upon loading Turbo View the same as the LAST FOLDER you visitied the last time you used Turbo View. Time saving feature! :) Added a GLOBE button. If you click it you are taken to my home page on the Web :) Added a whole bunch of Internet links so that you can jump to several places on MY web site! Added an Un-Install function in the "Setup" menu option. Use this when you want to get rid of the program. Added a check for different versions. If you attempt to run a newer version BEFORE un-installing the older version, you will be prompted to get the older version BACK and to do the un-install procedure. THEN use the newer version :) EVEN if you delete ALL the files in the FOLDER, Turbo View WILL KNOW if still need to run the older version's uninstall routine :) Added a check, if you ran the UnInstall function and then run the SAME version of Turbo View, you get a warning stating that you probably want to run a NEWER version. This prevents you from Un-Installing it and then re-installing the SAME OLD version by mistake :) Added the setup screen. The SETUP screen that allows you to pick what file types you want Turbo View to be the default viewer for comes up immediately the 1st time you run the program :) Of course you can change the types later if you want to. Made It Shareware! 11/01/98 Version 1.7 Fixed .ICO setup. It used to make it so that if you had an ICO file, the icon for it would be TURBO VIEW's icon. In fact, ICO files are special in that they always show what the actual ICON looks like rather than an ICON for the application that would view it. This is now fixed :) Added a delete button. If you decide you don't like a file, just click on the delete BUTTON ICON. This way you can use this viewer to clean up your folders of files you don't want! Added a UNDO button, so if you decided you didn't want to delete the file, just click on the UNDO button! NOTE: If you have more than one copy of Turbo View running and each copy has a few pics loaded and you delete a file from EACH copy, the UNDO feature still WORKS :) A seperate UNDO file is kept for EACH COPY of Turbo View running! Better looking WMF/EMF file viewing. It now shows up with a WHITE background for the EMF/WMF (MetaFiles). That way if the pic had some BLACK being drawn you will now see it. Before with the BLACK background, you couldn't see some on the EMF/WMF image. Directory remembering! Don't you hate it when you have to pic a file on a different drive than the last time you picked a folder? It takes you all the way back up to the TOP LEVEL ROOT folders :( Then you have to click your way down thru the folders & sub-folders. We now keep track of the LAST place you were on EVERY DRIVE :) We have now even put in a "MOST RECENT" option in the "File" menu selection. It keeps track of the last 10 places you have been! :) This is a real time saver!!! The drag/drop feature is enhanced to tell you if you tried to drag a file into the Turbo View window that CAN NOT be viewed with Turbo View. 10/30/98 Turbo View 1.6 PROGRAM PURPOSE: This program is meant to be a lean/mean quick & dirty file viewer. It's small and it's fast. Actually its about 4 times faster than using IE4 (Internet Explorer Version 4.x). That is the standard pic file viewer that comes with Windows 98. So please don't expect it to do all kinds of cool stuff like embossing & painting options. It's just a viewer. REQUIREMENTS: Memory : 16MB of user memory Disk : 1MB of Disk Space Mouse : Optional Printer: Optional INSTALLING/UNINSTALLING: Some programs require that you do run a special uninstall program to get rid of the program. With Turbo View, the only thing you need to do is to undo the file types in the Turbo View setup and then delete the Turbo View program. Simple as that! NOTE: If you want to change the Drive or FOLDER in which Turbo View is located, just move it. SIMPLE. Nothing special to take into consideration, EXCEPT that you need to use the SETUP option and UNCHECK all file types, then RECHECK the ones you want checked! FILES IT CAN VIEW: Turbo View can view files of the following types. .JPG .JPE .JPEG .BMP .ICO .EMF .WMF .GIF .TGA .PCX .PIC .MPG .WMA .MP3 .MOV .AVI .WAV And many more... CONFIGURING TURBO VIEW: When you 1st put Turbo View into your system, your system will not be able to AUTOMATICALLY load Turbo View as the default viewer for your picture files. This is because there are links in the operating system that must be changed to tell it to use Turbo View instead of whatever it's currently using. Click on the SETUP menu option and you will be presented with a list of file types that Turbo View can display. Just click on the file type that you want to have TURBO VIEW as the default viewer. For ex: When you double click in file manager, TURBO VIEW will load and display the file. Then click MAKE CHANGES. That's it. Very simple. As an added BONUS, you can even go back later and UNDO the change by UNclicking the file type and Turbo View is smart enough to restore the links to point to the default viewer that was in effect when Turbo View took it over. So you can check and uncheck different file types all day long without having to worry about deactivating you favorite default viewer. COOL VIEWING CONTROLS: Of course you have the standard buttons & menu selections for doing different things, but there are a few HIDDEN things you can do to make life easier. WHILE viewing a picture, you can do any of the following: 1. LEFT ARROW Scrolls image to the right 2. RIGHT ARROW Scrolls image to the left 3. UP ARROW " " Down 4. DOWN ARROW " " Up 5. PageUp Loads PREVIOUS file in list 6. PageDown Loads NEXT file in list 7. Left Mouse Click Loads PREVIOUS file in list 8. Right Mouse Click Loads NEXT file in list SUPER COOL VIEWING IN FULL SCREEN: Turbo View also has a method of displaying the file in FULL SCREEN mode. In this mode, NO OTHER WINDOWS programs can be seen. It's as though the only thing displayed is the picture centered. There are 2 modes of FULL screen. 1) Stretch/Shrink to fit into the screen. 2) No stretching done. You may only see a portion of the Image. In which case you can scroll around the image. HOW TO LOAD A PICTURE FILE: There 5 are ways to have Turbo View load pictures and display them. 1) Select file(s) from the File/Open files menu option. 2) Dragging file(s) from the File Manager into the Turbo View main viewing window. 3) Create a shortcut to Turbo View in your SENDTO folder, then select a bunch of file(s) and then right click and then pick "Send To" and then pick Turbo View. 4) Using filename(s) as parameters when you load TURBOVIEW.EXE For ex: C>TURBOVIEW C:\COOL1.JPG D:\BABES\PAM2.BMP This loads Turbo View and displays the 1st file, and assumes that the file list contains 2 files. 5) Draging onto SHORTCUT placed on your DeskTop. You could even drag a FOLDER onto the shortcut and that would bring up TurboView and load all the files in the folder being dragged. NOTE: If you use the DRAG or SHORCUT method, then the files are ADDED to the current file list. So if you already had 10 files in the file list, then you will end up with MORE than 10 once the drag/shortcut operation is done. NOTE: ONLY valid file types are allowed to be added to the file list. Creating the SHORTCUT for the SENDTO folder The best way to create the Shortcut is to go to the TurboView folder. Then start to drag the TURBOVIEW.EXE program. Move it about an inch so that you get the drag/drop icon showing. Then HOLD DOWN on the CTRL and SHIFT keys. You should see the drag/drop icon become the "shortcut" arrow:) Then let go of the mouse button. It should then create the SHORTCUT right in the Turboview folder. Then MOVE the shortcut into your Windows SENDTO folder. On most systems that would be located in C:\WINDOWS\SENDTO. Once you have dropped it into there, you can use the sendto feature of File Manager to display your pics. Just click on the files you want to look at then right click, then pick SENDTO, then pick TurboView and POOF you will become happyfied. PRINTING IN TURBO VIEW: We have printing capability now. You can select landscape or portrait. And you can even display a PREVIEW of what the output WILL look like. You can even tell it to print FULL PAGE or use specific margins or just to print in ACTUAL size. Actual size is usually very small, but NO ENLARGING or SHRINKING is done to accomodate the page. You can even select to keep the ASPECT ratio or not. If you DON'T keep the aspect ratio then the image may look distorted but it will at least FIT into the dimensions you gave it PERFECTLY! NOTE: If you have a whole BUNCH of files to print you can load them all into the files list and then tag the ones you want to print. Then go into the print options and indicated that you want to print TAGGED files only. Then select PRINT. Simple as that :) ============================================================= Differences Between NON-REGISTERED, REGISTERED & PRO VERSIONS NON-REGISTERED NON-REGISTERED allows only 10 Saves. If you want to save more files you need to register TurboView. You need PRO version or better to be able to use SCANNERS to scan pictures in and to use the Snap Shot Screen features. Otherwise you are only allowed 2 tries per run. You need PRO version or better to be able to use all 5 user defined EDITORS. A Maximum of 256 files can be in the files list. If there WOULD have been more then, they ARE NOT ALLOWED to be sorted; From the files list window you can only have 2 preview windows opened up at a time. EFFECTS, such as mirror, flip etc... Have nags built into them. You can only CONVERT (in the files list window) 10 files at a time. If you need to convert more, then upgrade to the PRO version or higher of TurboView. Search Results show ONLY the first 100 lines of matches, update to the PRO version or HIGHER to show all Only 2 files and 2 folders are remembered in the RECENT list in TurboView. If you register, it remembers up to 5 of each. You need PRO version or better to be able to use SCANNERS to scan pictures in and to use the Snap Shot Screen features. Otherwise you are only allowed 2 tries per run.
